2nd Trimester

Nursery: Can't Decide ANYthing!

I am absolutely obsessed with just getting started on the nursery - I want to feel like I am doing something to ready myself for baby's arrival.

Unfortunately, I can't decide on *any*thing.  This has gotten so bad, I have even back-tracked on the room I thought we would use for baby.

We have two spare bedrooms - one is very large and one is very small.  Whichever is not to be used for the nursery is going to be a guest bedroom (with our elliptical, too...that thing takes up SO much space).  Nothing is established yet because we just bought our house five months ago and just haven't gotten around to it.

Which room would you use for baby's room?  Less space or more?

Re: Nursery: Can't Decide ANYthing!

  • Personally, I think babies are tiny.  Haha.  If you have room to store their stuff somewhere else, I say put the baby in the smaller room.  When they get older and need more personal space, you could move them into the bigger room, right?

Both of our spare rooms are small... one just has a bigger closet.  Unfortunately our office is in the room with the bigger closet, and I'm NOT taking apart and moving our office furniture.  It's too big to get through the doors.

  • I'd go with the smaller room for now

  • If everything fit nicely in the smaller room I would probably use that, baby doesn't need a lot of space and if your like us you spend most your time in the common areas of the house anyways.

  • Ok, good - thanks!  My original thought was the smaller room but then I thought I was "jipping" baby.

Smaller room, it is... now onto a bedding set...  That decision should only take three months.  :P

  • #1..just breathe...

I would use the smaller room for the nursey, why you ask? Babies really dont need that much stuff until the get a bit older. Right now, you just need to focus on making it a beautiful tranquil room for you and the baby. Dont overlook storage. With so many diapers, wipies, clothes, and a gazilian other small things, this will keep you frm going crazy.

Keep it sweet and simple. Look at items that are easily convertable into the toddler stage, etc. You dont want to pour in soo much money into it now, to have to then redo it completely a couple of years from now.

The Second bedroom, I say keep it as the gest room/workout room for now. When the child gets to be a bit older, it can be an  (organized) playrom / mutil-purpose room. Plus, it will give you room to place some things that you dont want to place in the garage, etc.

You can do it! Send pics..I would love to help!

  • I think once you find the bedding things will come easier to you. I had a million ideas but couldn't commit to anything, once we saw our bedding in store and DH fell for it everything came together nicely. Things still aren't done but we have paint on the walls and a plan for the rest. Good luck!!

  • which one is closer?  I'm trying to decide if we want to use our office as the nusery or use our spare room.  The office is smaller and might keep us from buying so much stuff the spare room is bigger and would have so much room for stuff.

  • We chose the smaller room right next to the master.

  • we had the same dilemma and went with the smaller room for the nursery. It's plenty big enough for a crib, dresser/changing table combo and glider/ottoman which is really all that you need in a baby's room.

We are doing the guest room as a home office/guest room combo so we figured it was better to make that the bigger room.

  • We're gonna use the room right next to our master. Its a little bigger than the other spare room but i rather the baby room be real close, especially since there's a door from the master leading into that room. We may make the other room a guest room or just a space to put extra clothes & things for us & baby.
  • Thats if I dont make the smaller room into my sewing room which will be in the "baby's" room for now
  • So, we are using the larger of our 2 spare bedrooms for our baby.  Our main reason for doing that is in the event we have another baby while living in this house, the oldest will have the larger room.  I'd say use the larger room.
