Trying to Get Pregnant

Nuvaring Question (long)

Hi, I'm not a usual on here, but I have a question that hopefully you ladies can answer. My Dr. put me on Nuvaring to reduce a fibroid she found. I started my period July 16 and put the Nuvaring in the same day. I ended up having to take it out after 2 weeks because of the awful side effects I was getting. My period lasted for almost that whole 2 week span, I assume because my hormones were all out of whack. So around the 30th I took the ring out (with my Dr's permission). On Aug 9, we (DH and I) had a moment of weakness and didn't use any protection. According to my previous period, I should've started a week later, but I didn't. I took a pregnancy test (just to be safe) on the 19th. It was negative. I called my Dr and she said if I don't get my period by Aug. 24th, to come in for a blood test.Just this morning, I've noticed I'm spotting and a little crampy. Could this be implant bleeding? Or does anyone know if that short 2 week span on Nuvaring would cause this sort of disruption in my schedule? We weren't trying to get pregnant, but now I'm surprised to find myself kinda hoping that I am pregnant...Mostly, I'm just curious if anyone else has had this sort of situation. Any advice or feedback is very welcome and very appreciated! I'm surprised to find myself in this situation and I just need some perspective.
Have a good Saturday!!!

Re: Nuvaring Question (long)

  • Wow, that was really long.  Why would you put the ring in the first day of your period?  The instructions were for me to put it in the first Sunday after my period.  BC can really mess up your cycles.   Implantation spotting is very rare, so I would assume it's not that.

You should read Taking Charge of Your Fertility to learn about your body and do the tutorials on Fertilityfriend.com (you can go through the link on my chart to get there).

    GL with everything.

  • I was on the NuvaWRONG for a few months. I hated it, i was soo sick all the time, got horrible headaches and was just bitchy. I'm so glad i stopped with all birth control, i feel so much better. It sounds to me like your cycles are just a little whack right now. The chances of the single time you had sex to be just right are pretty low..sometimes it takes a while to O after birth control. After i took my NuvaRing out my periods were off for a while, and i believe once i took it out it took a WHILE to get my period again, so the point where i thought i was pg. as well.

    Hang in there and GL!

  • I loved the Nuvaring.  I had a great experience with it.  I as on the patch for like a year or so, that screwed everything up for a very long time.  The ring was the only thing that helped with the aftermath of the patch.

Oneday, please don't take this the wrong way, but your siggy is getting pretty long.

  • Yeah it was a long story. Thanks for reading the whole thing tho!

My Dr. said to put it in the first day of your period and to leave it in for 4 weeks to get rid of my fibroid. Usually I think you only leave it in for 3 weeks, take it out and then you have your period the week it's out. The only real reason I was on it was to shrink the fibroid so maybe they had me do it differently because of that. Thanks for the advice! I kinda figured things were screwy because of the Ring. Guess this was just an eye-opener!

    Have a good weekend!!!

  • One Day At a Time:

Thanks for the reply! I totally agree!! I had a HORRIBLE time with it. In no time flat I became a crazy, psycho-hose beast, couldn't sleep and had zero control over my emotions. I was only to happy to take it out. I'm a nice, normal member of society again!! =)

  • I also had a great experience with NuvaRing, it was definitely the best BC I had ever used.  I've only been off it for 1 cycle but I got my period after having it out for only 4 days.  So far everything has been normal...I'm sure your cycle has just gone a little crazy because of the 2 weeks your were on it.  2 weeks doesn't seem like a long time but it is when it has to do with your cycle!  GL though...I'm sure everything will return to normal soon!

  • I loved the Nuvaring too, I used it for YEARS, and my periods regulated quickly once I stopped.

If you had it in for 2 weeks, I would think the spotting was not implantation spotting, just body confusion.
