I went and got our car seat inspected during my lunch today. I took everyone's advice on here and did it even though DH didn't think it was necessary. Luckily, he did a great job and did it correctly. But...I'm glad I went for the peace of mind.
What blew my mind was watching some of the others with their inspections. There was a guy there who had to know he installed his wrong. It looked the like the baby would have been leaning totally forward if in the car seat. It was ridiculous! It made me so relieved he took the time to go get it checked out. I felt badly for him though. The gal spoke really loudly and was kind of speaking to him like a child. It was really uncomfortable.
Anyway, I feel good now that I know we are safely going to bring our baby home.
Re: Car Seat Inspection
I'm so glad you went! DH is now an expert and is a pro at installing a SnugRide base in any vehicle, it's great.
MIL had hers installed soooooo wrong and picked DD up from daycare and drove her home like that. Just thinking about it now freaks me out. You know how the base is supposed to only move like 1/2 inch side to side if you pull on it? MIL's base was going 8 inches in either direction. Terrifying. I'm so glad I checked her car that day.
The bases turned out to be so easy to install but I'm SO glad we went just for peace of mind. Plus, I learned that with Graco seats the carrying bar is supposed to stay up while driving (I thought all carseats were supposed to be down) and I found out that graco has some crash tested things we can hang from the bar. Good things to learn! I'm sure we'll go back with the convertable b/c those look more complicated
