Weirdly enough, I was just thinking this. I am reading The Triumph of Katie Byrne, and in the story, her brother's name is Niall. I was sitting there just a half an hour ago, thinking, "I wonder how this is pronounced?"

I wouldn't say it until I heard him or his parents say it. Hey you works well. I just don't like saying people's names incorrectly--it makes me feel uncomfortable.
Not going for Neil- I thought it would be pronounced like the river Nile but when looking it up it gave alternate spellings as Neil and Neal which didnt even come to my mind when seeing the name Niall.?

A similar name that I think is cute is Nielle (pronounced knee-ell).
If you're going for Neil. I think a stupid crazy spelling is beyond ridiculous. Your child will hate you for it.
