If I knew he was Irish/Irish American I would say Nile. If I knew he was Scottish/Sottish American I would say Neil.

Weirdly enough, I was just thinking this. I am reading The Triumph of Katie Byrne, and in the story, her brother's name is Niall. I was sitting there just a half an hour ago, thinking, "I wonder how this is pronounced?"

Not going for Neil- I thought it would be pronounced like the river Nile but when looking it up it gave alternate spellings as Neil and Neal which didnt even come to my mind when seeing the name Niall.?
