Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I still can't believe how much I love her.

I mean, I knew I would be totally in love with DD when she came, but the feeling is so overwhelming sometimes that it almost breaks my heart.  I never knew love could be like this.

She just totally gave me the most beautiful smile- that's what made me think this and I had to share.

  • It's crazy isn't it?

  • It really is overwhelming.  It makes me feel bad for how mean I was to my mom when I was a teenager.
  • i feel like this every miinute of the day - esp ehen she first wakes up she just gives me this sleepy big smile - makes me melt.

  • falling in love with your child isn't always instant.  Lots of moms have to get to know their LO first.  But it is amazing when you realize how much love you can have for them!!

this kinda makes me sad.. my love was totally instant

  • I know!  I knew I'd love her, but you just can't explain how much. People told me it would be different, but I didn't think.  Until you have kids, you just don't know.
  • It really is insane.  The first couple days I cried so much with my love for my son.  It seemed almost unreal and still does.

pkate98--thank you for pointing this out.  A voice of reason on this post was nice to read.  THIS post is a perfect example of mommy guilt. I'm sure I'm setting myself up to get flamed, but I have to say it.  I'm wondering how many women are reading this who didn't feel that instant love, and are now feeling like bad, guilty mothers.  I also want to know who has that overwhelming love for their child every moment, because I don't buy it.  There's just no way.  You can be a great mother, a loving mother, without feeling that every moment.  Becoming a mother doesn't mean you stop being a human, and let's face it, humans get tired, they get frustrated and they can feel resentment.

I love my daughter very much, and know I'm a great mom. And I do have moments of overwhelming love for my daughter.  But I don't pass judgement on others for not having the same experiences I have had, or the same outlook.

I just hope the women out there reading this post who don't feel "instant, overwhelming love every minute of the day" have the self confidence to know that they're still great moms, too.

  • It's the most amazing feeling in the world.

ETA: I don't think the pp is flameworthy at all! Everyone's experience is different. I was so overwhelmed the first few weeks, and my enjoyment of motherhood has skyrocketed recently. I agree that needing time to warm up to parenting doesn't mean that a person is bad at it.  So I think a person can experience both ends of the spectrum.

A voice of reason?  So those of us who did feel instant love are irrational and shouldn't share our feelings?

She didn't say that she couldn't understand how someone didn't feel that way instantly.  Not a single person in the thread was passing judgement on anyone for feeling differently.
