How do I keep him from falling asleep at the boob? I do everything I can think of to wake him and hes out in seconds! He is even just in a onesie to keep him from being warm and comfy! TYIA
They will grow out of it...my LO did it every time too...he liked to sleep a lot...and did not like eating. I totally undressed him (just a diaper) and put him skin to skin with me, that seemed to work the best when he was weeks old.
Our little guy always does this too (I know it's only been a week but still...)
We just make sure to change his diaper every time right before I feed him. Even if he doesn't need to be changed we go through the process because it always seems to get him riled up.
Once he has his fill he is out cold...and continues to sleep though, so I'm starting to see it as a good thing. GL!
As long as your house is a comfy temp, there's no reason he can't be naked. I've found it helps a little bit. I've also had success with (at various times):
Rubbing her head
Tickling her ear
Rubbing her hands
massaging her shoulder muscle by her head
picking up and moving her arm around
If all else fails, I've taken her off the boob and put her beside me, on her back, on the couch. She stretches and wakes up because she no longer has the comfort of my body heat/boob. Usually, she'll cry a little bit, which also wakes her up. As soon as I lay her back on the Boppy, she calms down, but stays awake for a little while, which helps her eat.
I haven't tried a different pillow, but I've heard that My Breast Friend pillows help to keep babies more awake because they're not as plush as Boppy's.
HTH I had the same problem; it's gotten a little better now, but mostly she still falls asleep. She DOES manage to eat, though; must be the sucking reflex. Not sure when babies are supposed to "grow out of it", but DD sure hasn't yet.
