Re: Groccery shopping with baby

  • I try to go while she's napping and leave her in her car seat. Her seat fits into the child seat in the front of the cart. If she wakes up I usually have to hold her and push the cart one handed.

  • I put the carseat on the basket and the groceries in the basket.

When I have DS and DD with me I have to make sure I go the stores that have the GIANT basket with a seat for DS and a place for the car seat.  Its like a freakin' limo!!

  • i usually go by myself or my bf comes with me. i have gone to get a few things and i just take her in the car seat and the snap and go since i'm only getting a few things i just place them in the basket of the snap n go
  • I usually wait until DH gets home (or have him do it).  The reason is because for me, what works best, is to put DS's infant seat directly in the cart.  That leaves limited space for groceries!  It would work fine if you are just picking up a few things, but not for a regular bigger shopping trip.

I've seen people at the store balance their LO's infant seat on the front (seat) part of the shopping cart, but that makes me nervous.  DS's seat doesn't fit it properly, so I wouldn't be able to latch it or secure him in any way.

Some stores have "Shopper's Aid" carts that accommodate an infant seat in front of the basket part of the cart, but I haven't tried one, and I don't think a lot of stores have these yet.

I'd just put him/her in the basket part of the cart and get what you can with limited space Smile if you can't wait 'til DH gets home.  GL!

  • When DS was as young as your LO, I wore him in the Moby.

But if she is good in her carseat then I would put her in the large part of the shopping cart. ?If you have a TON of shopping to do, than it's probably best to just wait for DH. ??

  • It's easiest to wear the baby if you can. If not, I would but DS in his car seat in the main part of the cart. I would put groceries around the car seat, under the shopping cart and in the top of the cart where kids usually sit. We have a Chicco so it wouldn't sit on top of the cart, which I'm glad because that isn't really safe anyway. Good luck. The first grocery shopping trip out is quite challenging, but you'll get the hang of it soon. Oh, I also wouldn't do my whole huge grocery shopping trip at once. I'd split it up between 2, maybe 3, trips so I would have room in my cart. This is easy for me though since the grocery store is only a few blocks away.
  • After the first major meltdown at the grocery store I started to leave the car seat in the car and put my LO in the Moby.  It's worked for us so far.

  • I haven't gone grocery shopping with her now that I think about it.  We usually go on DH days off.
  • Most of the time I grocery shop from my stroller.  I just put the groceries in the basket underneath.  I have done it since DD was 6 months old.  It seemed strange at first, but I have since notice a lot of moms in my store do it.  I think it is because the grocery is at the entrance of the neighborhood and most of us find it easier to walk than drive.

If it is raining really hard and I don't walk, then I wear DS and DD sits in the cart.

Sometimes I get the kid cart, which looks like a car.  DD sits in the cart and the car seat goes up in the basket.  That cart is big enough that I can put some groceries around the car seat and some more in the seat by DD.

  • I always leave him in his carseat.  I put the carseat across the cart, and there is a strap on the cart that goes through the carseat handle so the seat doesn't slide down the cart.  I hope that makes sense.  There is still a big opening to put stuff in the cart.

this exactly. we also have a chicco. what works the best for our main grocery shopping trip is to have dh either come with so i can push LO around in the stroller while he pushes the cart, or just have DH do the groceries himself. but for smaller trips to the store, i'll put the car seat in the main part of the cart and fit the groceries wherever i can. i will not put the car seat on the child seat area or balanced on the main part of the basket.

  • I wear the Moby.  If I only need a few things I will just put the infant seat into the deep part of the cart.  For most shopping trips, we need way more than just a few items so there would be no way of putting the infant seat and all of the groceries down in the cart.

--Putting the infant seat on the top part of the cart scares me too much!!

  • DH has done 99% of the shopping. The 1 time I went I only needed a few things , and put the car seat in the cart.
  • I wear my wrap. The carseat is way too huge and I have too many groceries to take up that much room with it
