I made it to 31 1/2 weeks. The day after my shower my water broke. As many of you know, I've been in pre term labor for 3 weeks. My water broke at 9:45am as I'm resting with my feet up. I calmly told my husband to call the doctor and grab my bag and I cleaned up. Second bag broke on the wheelchair heading up to L&D. I was dilated to 5 already. I labored a few hours (proud of myself with the breathing) and then received the epidural. I was good to go another 3 hours and before I knew it, I was dilated to 10. They wheeled me into the operating room to begin pushing (policy at this hospital for twins in case it goes to a c section which mine did). I pushed from about 5pm until 7:30pm. I gave it my all. Doctor said our son would be out in about 15 min but she'll take a bit longer and she's already showing signs of distress. Dr. recommended the c section. I agreed, from the beginning I told the dr. whatever she recommended I'll do and she recommened we push first because they were in great position.
August 16th Gabriella and Elias were born. Gabriella weights 3 pounds 3 ounces at 15 3/4 inches long and Elias weights 4 pounds 3 ounces at 17 1/2 inches long. Turns out they would've taken some severe action that week once they found out Elias was taking all of Gabriella's nutrients.
Babies are of course in the NICU. Elias is off the oxygen and breathing all on his own. He'll come off the ultraviolet light today. Gabriella is still on a bit of oxygen but reaady to come off soon as well. She's off the ultraviolet light. Both are taking up to 10 cc's of milk through a tube and they increase by 1cc every 12 hours. They take it great. In the next week or less they'll move them to bottle feedings. I've been able to hold them both and even feed Elias with the tube as well as change his diaper.
It's a miracle, truly a dream come true. I never imagined ever feeling this way. I can't stop crying out of pure joy. When they wheeled me to see them after surgery, I can't explain how I felt. I had to leave the hospital yesterday and it felt awful to leave them but I know it's for the best. We went back last night and are heading there this morning soon.
Thanks everyone for all your support!
