Babies: 9 - 12 Months

what does your LO eat for breakfast?

I've tried, fruit w/cereal,just cereal, the good morning jars...nothing holds her more than the 2 hours. Trying to figure out if there is something else I can give her. I'm just worried w/daycare starting that she will be hungry and they won't understand cause she just ate! LOL

Re: what does your LO eat for breakfast?

  • Mine still gets just a bottle.  We give her an 8oz bottle and she doesnt eat again until 11:30-12.

  • DS gets a jar or cereal and then I make a 7oz bottle.  That'll hold him until lunch.  If he doesnt' finish the bottle at breakfast (which is typical), he'll finish the rest around his nap time.

  • My DD is a little piggy.  She has a 5oz bottle around 6am and then at 9am she has 5 tablespoons of cereal and a stage 2 container of fruit.  That only holds her till about 12:30-1:00pm.
  • First, you do not have to just give fruits.  Try some homemade veggies, like sweet potato or squash.

    Or maybe fresh avacado.

Or even some yogurt.  There is this new yogurt brand that has fruit and veggies mixed in.  I wish I could remember the name right now.

Second, we always give Monks a full bottle when she first wakes up and then she gets her breakfast a couple hours later.  You can always reverse that.  A bottle right before you go to daycare.

  • DS gets a 5oz bottle a bit after he wakes up and then an hour later he has breakfast.  This morning, it was 1/4 waffle, fruit w/ oatmeal, and 1/2 yogurt.  He probably won't eat again until 11:30-12.

  • Also, what stage food are you using?  Maybe go up a stage or make sure that what you feed her is thick enough.

  • He gets a 6 ounce bottle at 6am. Around 8:30 he gets a jar of fruit and then daycare feeds him whatever they are having that morning. Today he is having yogurt.

  • DD always nurses at about 8 and then gets breakfast at 9-ish which is almost always 3 T of oatmeal cereal with 1/2 stage 1 jar of prunes. If she still seems hungry I will give her more milk. I'm starting yogurt now too, so we'll probably start switching between that and the prunes. She usually doesn't eat again until after 12.
  • For breakfast, N gets a bottle around 7:30 (he use to eat 8oz but has dropped it down to 5-6oz this week) and gets oatmeal at 8:30.

I never measure the oatmeal, I just keep giving it to him until he doesn't get upset when the bowl is empty!  I roughly start with the amount in a package of instant oatmeal. Then I mix in 1/3-1/2 of a container of a Stage 2 fruit or some homemade fruit puree.

He eats his 2nd bottle at 10:30-11. Solid lunch at noon.
