Showing at 8 weeks???

Just curious, any first time moms feel like they are already starting to show??? It doesn't really look like a 'baby bump' yet .. .mostly just bloat..but the past few days it's gotten much worse .... I think I will be really showing early ...anyone else??? Please make me feel better! lol (if it makes a difference, I am only 5'2" and started around 120 --after gaining 10 lbs during ivf..)

Re: Showing at 8 weeks???

  • I'm just about your size, 5'2 and 115.  Last night before I went to bed I thought I could really see a little bump but I think it was just bloat because this morning it was gone!  :(

  • I am 8 weeks 3 days, and can tell a tiny difference in my waistline.  I have a very toned and muscular tummy normally (good genes thank God), but can now see a tiny pouch of 'fat' in the center.  It could just be bloat from all of the salt and sugar I am ingesting:(  I think everyone is different!

I would say bloat, your baby bumps will come in time.

  • I am 5'1 and started out at 117. I also feel that I am going to show early. I was told that smaller frames tend to be a little more obvious but I am a little surprised. I have gained about 5 pounds but all my pants still fit. I have noticed that all my tops and dresses with a fitted chest area are really tight and I have gone up a whole cup size (now I am a DD) so I think most of  my weight is in my boobs.

Someone did tell me today that I had a "little tummy." I was mortified but everyone else thinks it's cute. It doesn't help that my best friend only but on 20 pounds with her daughter. Something she insists of reminding me of.

  • cool link from pp!!!  Thanks!
  • I have had a "belly" that does NOT change throughout the day and has been getting bigger every week since about 7 weeks. I haven't gained any weight and like I said it doesn't get bigger then smaller it's there from the moment I wake up and it's round and only in the center. I am only 5 foot and not super skinny but a flat belly pre-pregnancy. It isn't a  "baby" bump but it could very well be your organs moving out instead of up like someone mentioned to me. Most women their organs move up first then the baby moves out but since you are so short your organs don't have enough room to go up very far. My mom is 5 foot and said she showed pretty early with her first as well. I dunno some might not agree but I still like my belly even if all it is, is bloat! lol

This is me, but my bloat has started to go away.  I use to be horribly bloated up until about this week.  I am only bloated certain times of the day now but my waistline is no more.  I can still wear the same clothes, but I've gained weight.  It is really odd.  I use to have a flat belly and now it has a layer of softness over my abs.  I hope my bump comes soon!

  • I'm starting to show a little. I honestly don't think its bloat either. I'm 5'4" and weighed 170 pre pg so I'm not a small girl although my stomach was pretty flat....I don't know...Either way I just want it to continue to grow!
  • I am 8 1/2 and I swear I am showing a little.  It is definitely very hard and I am not really bloated anymore.  It is also higher than my normal "pudge". I am 5'8 and 180 though.  I am a little worried because we just found out this week and are getting married in October and hope I can fit in my dress!
  • Your uterus does not stick out further than your hipbones until 12 weeks. ?What you're feeling is bloating and gas. ?Your waistline will thicken a little, but it's not your uterus or the baby yet. ?
  • Thanks everyone, makes me feel better to know Im not alone!! I just cant wait till it looks like a baby bump instead of a layer of fat I never had before :)
  • You are not going to show that early.. don't worry.  I started out at 5'2'' and 118 lbs.

This is right when I found out I was pg around 4 weeks:

This is 20 weeks after gaining close to 20 lbs and I thought I was huge:

This was last week--- clearly I was NOT huge at 20 weeks, haha!

  • You aren't showing at 8 weeks - your uterus hasn't expanded beyond your hip line to be popping out yet.  It's bloat - which can definitely add some extra weight and a pooch that will make you think its the baby bump.

And honestly, your size doesn't really determine when you will show.  I am 5'0 and started off at 95 pounds with my son and no one had a clue I has pregnant until 25 weeks.  My doctor said it has less to do with your height and weight and more to do with how long/short waisted you are relative to your body size.  Apparently, I am very long waisted.

I know you all are anxious to look pregnant, but it will come soon enough...sometime probably in mid-2nd trimester.   Then the backaches and crappy sleeping start, so don't be too anxious to get to it!!!

  • I was also wondering about the short/long waist thing. I am 5"7 and have a fairly athletic build but I have a VERY short waist. I have a definate bloat bump but I think my organs have started to shift up already. I can no longer sit down and eat a huge meal....I get that full feeling very quickly now.
  • Its probably just bloat. Everyone is different and shows at different times but I'm 5'2 and started around 120 and didn't have a distinct BUMP per say until around 22-24 weeks. It took awhile for me to show... before that I was just bloated but could still wear my regular clothes.
  • I think we shorter gals do show a little bit earlier!  I'm 5'4 and I have a short torso... so there's nowhere for anything to go but out.  I ordered some maternity clothes and I cannot wait for them to get here, because only two pairs of my normal pants still fit comfortably!  Ugh!

Me too!  I can only eat tiny portions all day.  I feel horrible if I try to eat a full meal.

I agree, I'm 5'2 and none of my pants are fitting.  Luckily I have my bella band from my first pregnancy.

  • Unfortunately, my stomach was never very flat and I am super active. Some days I feel HUGE, but its mainly bloat and not baby. I have been weighing myself and have stayed around my weight before I became preggers.

    Soon come.

  • OK, well then I have been bloated for an entire week and the top of my mini bump is hard...so if I am just bloated, I am pretending that it is indeed a baby and I think its rude when other people tell me, "You're just bloated"..well actually I am pregnant!  NOT JUST bloated, so I am going with the baby.  I have gained a few pounds, but not many.  I lost a bunch of weight before I got pregnant, but my stomach muscles were not...exactly developed.  So go with the baby bump friends and no thanks to those who say, in not so many words, "Oh... you're just fat".

PS--If you haven't picked up a Bella Band yet, it's the best thing--its basically a stretchy band that you can wear over your regular jeans/pants, just unbuttoned.  My non-pregnant friends are jealous and want one for going out for dinner.
