3rd Trimester

GBS

How do your dr's test for this?

I have heard from some that they swab your vag and your bum hole!! Is that true?

DH was going to come for my next appt (he comes to all) but I think he will get to stay in the waiting room for this one!!!

Re: GBS

  • yup, thats how it goes. no worries, its super quick and not very uncomfortable

  • It was very noninvasive. She barely swabbed the inside of my vadge, them very lightly touched the outside of my anus. It was nothing like a pap or an internal exam.

  • A) Yes some dr's swab both, I don't think mine did however. I know he did a vaginal swab, and if he did the rectal, I had no idea.

    B) If you are worried about your husband being in the room for a 2 second swab culture, what are you planning for labor and delivery?!?!

  • From what I understand, some doctors allow you to do it yourself. All of my friends who have recently had babies were directed to wipe the area with a sanitized cloth and then swab themselves, since it is so non-invasive. I am hoping that my doctor gives me this option, although I am not too terribly worried about it. I go to the doctor tomorrow for my 35 week check up, so we'll see what happens!

Thanks Ladies i thought it was more like a pap!

Im not worried about DH being in there just didnt feel like he needed to be in there for that. He wants to come when they start checking my cervix so that he is fully aware of all that is going on and I have no problem with him being there for that.

I guess the main concern was the whole rectal thing. I had no idea it was just a swab that is no big deal! :)

  • The test results are only valid for a 6 week period.. I am surprised they would do it so early to you.. However.. the test is done with you laying on the table, its not like you flip over and get on all fours or anything.. its just like an exam and in all honesty I didnt feel it... but I was relaxed and we talked through the whole thing... dont over think things :)
  • Yep, that's how it goes. It takes 2 seconds and is completely painless. I agree with the PP, that is NOTHING compared to delivery.
