Parenting after a Loss

Passport for LO?

Has anyone done this yet?  Instructions seem pretty clear on the website, just wondering if there are any hitches I should look out for.  It strikes me as funny that his height might be listed as 2 feet for the next 6 years or whatever.  ;-)

Re: Passport for LO?

  • I have a friend who had to get a passport for her daughter when she was two weeks old because the family was living in Japan.  She had to wear a white shirt to hold her up since the picture had to have a white background, so you may want to wear white that day in case you have to hold Kiran.

  • Or, I saw someone taking a photo for a baby and they took a piece of white tagboard and put it on the floor, then put the baby on the tagboard and took the picture that way.

Good luck, I need to do this soon for Stink.

  • Yes, we got DS's passport about a month ago bc DH's grandfather in Switzerland is ailing and we might have to go there for a funeral :(

It was pretty easy.  Fill out the application, go get a (super cute!) picture taken, bring it in with the birth certificate.  Only "hitch" is both mom and dad have to apply in person.

  • We just did this for Amelia. It was actually pretty easy. For the picture, I sat her on a stool and I sat on a chair next to her to make sure she didn't fall. It was really fast.

In addtion to both parents applying in person, you have to bring official proof of identity for both parents and copies of your proof to be sent in with the application and K's birth certification.

  • We got Avery's.  Make sure both parents are there in person to sign.  Also, make sure the picture they take shows the neck and shoulders in the picture.  The guy who took A's picture said it's sometimes an issue with infants - because their neck is not that long and the passport picture requirements want to see the neck and shoulders.
