Pregnant after a Loss

? Regarding Late Ovulation and Conception after m/c

Hi Ladies...I recently had an early miscarriage (chem pg) on 7-25-09.  I usually have a 35 day cycle, with ovulation around days 19-21.  This is the first month post CP (got the ok from my Dr. to try this month), and got a +OPK yesterday, which was day 23.  So, I was wondering if anyone had a sucessful pregnancy with this late of ovulation after a m/c.  Everything I read online about late ovulation says it is tied with m/c.  BTW i did recieve a prescription from my DR. to start Clomid next month and he will be doing some labwork.  I really don't want to go through an early m/c again.  Thanks!

Re: ? Regarding Late Ovulation and Conception after m/c

  • This time I O'd on CD22.  I typically O'd between CD20 and CD28.  My OB said my late ovulation had nothing to do with my previous miscarriages but I am not sure.  There seems to be a mixed school of thought on that link and after a few more long cycles he put me on clomid (which is when I O'd on CD22 and got pregnant this time).  GL!

  • I got pregnant with this baby after my early loss in April before I even got AF.  I ovulated around CD33 or 34.  Everything has gone perfectly for me.  Good luck!

I'm inclined to call this hogwash. Your Google findings, that is. I too was worried about this--I ovulated anywhere from CD 21-32 while I was charting. My first pregnancy was conceived sometime in the fifth week of my cycle, and I lost it because of my uterine septum--we had a normal baby with a heartbeat until it ran out of room. This current baby was conceived with ovulation on CD24. My doctor assured me that late ovulation was not a problem as long as I was ovulating, but I still wasn't sure. But then I think of all the stories I hear about women with PCOS or similar who are annovulatory for years, one egg pops out and they go on to have a healthy baby.

Now I'm convinced a late ovulation doesn't doom a pregnancy, not by a long shot. It may be connected to other problems that can lead to miscarriage--I'm not sure.  But in my unprofessional opinion, any doctor who says a late ovulation could have been the reason for an early miscarriage is grasping at straws.

  • I am currently pregnant with a CD23 ovulation.  So far things look good, but we are far from out of the woods.  I asked my doctor about this, and she said that she doesn't believe it.

  • CD 26 for me.
  • The first cycle after my cp, I noticed my EWCM was around CD14 so we BDed all that week but got a BFN. The second cycle, I had the same thing happen and hoped for a BFP. On CD23, we had sex "for fun" (if there is such a thing when you are TTCAL?) and voila! Judging by my EDD, I O'ed on CD24 -- 10 days after my EWCM. Can't explain it!
  • With my daughter I got pg and ovulated on CD 35 (pre-miscarriage)  With both my miscarriages I ovulated on CD 21ish, and with this pregnancy I ovulated on CD 17... there is hope with late ovulation.

     Good luck!

  • I have no advice about the late O, but just wanted to make sure you dr would be monitoring you very closely (by u/s) while you are on Clomid... it can really thin your lining and cause cysts.

Good luck! I hope to see you back here real soon (to stay!)

  • I was a late ovulator after my first m/c. My RE was concerned because he said the egg quality goes down the later you ovulate (my cycle after the first m/c was about 60 days). I got a BFP right away, but that ended in a m/c (baby's heart stopped at 8w6d and testing showed that the baby had Trisomy 21).

My RE put me on Femara, then Clomid after the second m/c to see if they could move my ovulation date to where it should be. Two rounds of Femara and three rounds of Clomid did not make me ovulate on a 28 day cycle like they wanted, but I was able to ovulate at about CD 31, which gave me a BFP.

  • I always O late... this time I think it was sometime between CD 28 and 30 and I haven't had a problem so far with this pregnancy!
