Clueless cook here...how to bake apples?

Okay, I know that this sounds really dumb, but I want to be sure that I'm not missing something. I wanted to bake some apples for dd to eat as finger food (I'm assuming that baking is the best, to make them soft???)

Um...how do I bake them? Temp? Peeled? Length?

I'm sure it's as simple as putting them in a dish and sticking them in the oven, but any tips anyone can offer would be great. :) I did google, but all I could find were recipes, and I just want to bake apples.

TIA :)

  • peel them and quarter them. i would put them into a pan with a little water then bake at 350 till soft, check after ten minutes.. alternatively you could boil them.. search for some applesauce recipes they will give you good hints.

  • I would peel and core, then cut into quarters.  Put them in a dish with a tad bit of water at the bottom.  Bake at 400 for an hour.  Check them periodically to make sure they are not too soft.

  • Thanks so much, ladies! :-)
  • Okay, I'm the lazy one.  I cut them in half, core them, and put them flesh side down in a pan w/ a little water.  Bake at 400 for about 45 minutes.  Once they're cool to the touch, the skins slip right off...no peeling necessary! Smile

  • Or cut them into pieces and steam until soft.
