So upset...pet related

I have a kitten and a dog. They are a handful but I love them so much. We live in an apartment complex and now a beautiful manx cat is hanging around our door. She looks almost just like my kitten (same colors). Well, I've been feeding her. She is so sweet. I figured out tonight that she is pregnant. I am so upset. I wish I could take her but the baby is due in 2 weeks and I can't imagine trying to get our animals we already have used to her, much less trying to take care of kittens at the same time. I wish there was something I could do.

    3. Is there a shelter you can take her to?  Those people would understand why you can't possibly keep her right now - and they'd have a vet to help her w/ her needs!

      This. Preferably a no-kill shelter!

    5. i agree with the no kill shelter.

    6. Cross post this on the Pets board.  I'm sure those ladies can offer some helpful information.
    7. That's awful - I would feel just as bad as you in that situation. Poor kitty.

Since you live in an apartment maybe put a posting by the mailboxes too - maybe someone in the building would be will to take her.

    8. If the pregnancy is the difference between giving her a home and not, you might consider calling your vet and asking about options there.  A heartbreaking and rarely talked about thing is that sometimes in animal rescue a vet will do a "pregnant spay" which terminates the pregnancy.  Shelters are really full right now, especially in our part of the country, and if you can save the adult cat that might be the right thing to do when you think about the kittens' future as feral cats who would likely eventually be put down in a shelter.

If, on the other hand, you can find a rescue that will take the cat and try to adopt out the kittens, go that route.  I'm sorry you're in this situation.  It sucks.

    9. Go on petfinder, look up all rescues in your area, and start emailing and calling. ?She's probably at a point where she can be spay/aborted which I know sounds horrible, but would probably help her a lot OR you might be able to find a rescue that can take her and foster her until she has the kittens. ?If she has those kittens outside most of them will die and it puts her at great health risk. ?Kill shelters normally euthanize pregnant cats immediately b.c. they don't have the space to hold onto a pregnant cat long enough for her to give birth and for the kittens to be old enough for adoption. ?If a spay/abort means you can save her rather than save none, then its something to consider. ?

Unfortunately it is kitten season and you live in a state notorious for pet overpopulation problems so you may have to work at this. ?If all else fails, you can take her into the SPCA and get a low cost spay/abort done yourself. ?It would probably be less than $100. ?Then you can keep feeding her, etc while you continue to look for a safe place for her to go.

I'd also reach out to rescues and no kill shelters outside of your state. ?

DO NOT GIVE HER AWAY FOR FREE TO ANYONE. ?If you look for help on CL be very, very careful about who she goes to. ?This is a good article explaining why: ?https://www.nowisconsinpuppymills.com/free.html

I can't emphasize enough how dangerous it is to give a pet away for free.

Also, please pop over and post on pets. ?We have ladies all over the country, most of us work in rescue and do transport, so there are a lot of ways we might be able to help you out.?

You've already gotten some good advice, but I must repeat this one:

DO NOT post about this cat on Craigslist.  CL is not a place for animal postings at all.  We'd like to believe in the goodness of people, but the reality is that sick people pick up free cats whereever they can - to sell for research, to use as training animals for fighting dogs, etc.

Poor thing - I hope everything works out for her.
