Need to vent about decor

I am so pissed right now. One set I liked online is no longer available OK. go to backup - I went back to Buy Buy Baby on Monday and found a backup. I go back yesterday to find out it also being discontinued. We are having a boy and there is nothing else I like to put on my registry. We are paiting the ceiling a cloud mural and soft yellow wall ( we had our heart set on clounds). . I am really not in the mood for this crap.  I checked in Babies R Us and they have zip.  Salespeople are blaming it on the vendors and time of the year. Oh, I'm sorry I'm pregnant during the recession yet trying to give you gus business. Why is everthing for baby boys have to be green and brown with stupid monkeys, frogs and trucks!

  • The typos are because  I am pissed ...

  • Is it possible for you to purchase the crib bedding then since it is discontinued and you won't have to put it on your registry that way?  Then you can just register for everything else you will need for baby.  That is what we did and there is still a TON of things we need!  Good luck!
  • Oh sure , let me spend $250 on something that I did not plan on spending and have everyone buy what they want - not what is on my reigistry - what I need. I have seen other posts where people do this.  Also also the articles about bumpers and quilts causing SIDS - why bother buying them if it supposed to kill your kid.  Also, how long will you use the damn bedding set ... 1 - 2 years?
  • Adding to the fact that I am 38, having our first child - DH and I had job troubles because of the economy and sacrificed not traveling for 5 years of our marriage so we could buy a home and have a kid and not get ourselves in debt.  Now we go to try and spend the money and the joy is sucked out !

If you're not going to use the bumper or quilt, then why do you even want to register for it?

Wow no kidding---you just sounded like you were dead set in the fact that you needed this particular bedding set above sooo...

I was just putting a suggestion out there.  I understand financial troubles---DH and I have only been married 1 year and things are definately tight.  We found our bedding set on sale for $150 and decided to go ahead and get that ourselves and we still have plenty of big things on our registry that are useful---car seats, PNP, high chair, stroller, jogging stroller, etc.  Not really sure why my response made you so angry---oh well!

  • So wait...you only want it desperately if someone else is going to buy it for you? I'm confused....

If you love the bedding set and can't register for it, buy it yourself. That's what I did. I fell in love with a discontinued pattern and found it on eBay. Voila, problem solved. There will be plenty of other items on your registry for your friends and family to purchase.

  • I'm confused. You have to have the bedding, but you aren't willing to buy it and you want other people to buy it for you? You claim you did not "plan" on spending the  money on bedding, but you should know that if you are having a child, everything involving that child is your responsibility. Including bedding. I feel like I'm watching a 16 year old throw a tantrum, not a 38 year old woman expecting a child.

  • We opted to buy only the crib sheet and skirt for DS and never used the quilt/bumper so we are doing the same for DD.  I would suggest looking on ebay and see if you can buy the pieces individually for less that you will actually use.
  • Umm reason why I am annoyed about buying it is because I know I am also going to have to end up buying a lot of stuff on my registry.  People are going to buy what they want to buy, not what I am going to need.  This is reality. Besides the set I really loved is gone so now I am scrimping around for backups.

That doesn't really make sense---if what you are saying is why you were worried than apparently you should have been worried in the first place about your $250 bedding getting bought off your registry and you ::gasp:: might have had to buy it yourself anyway.  Gifts are just a bonus and not to be expected ever so I don't understnd why this would annoy you so much.  You are right---people are going to buy what they want from your registry and you should be grateful for what they get for you.  I agree with PP about this sounding like a child's temper tantrum.  Based on this and your other posts, you certainly don't seem like a "happee wife" to me.

    well said.
  • Not that I want to encourage your attitude, but I think this set may work for what you have planned and all the pieces are available individually.

But how do you know they're going to buy the bedding off your registry? At $250 for a baby's bedding set, I'd move right on down the registry list and pick something else, something more practical to spend my money on. You said yourself that people buy what they want...

  • People are not obligated to buy you gifts. You should be grateful for whatever they are thoughtful enough to buy you. If you're that set on the bedding, buy it yourself. It's that simple.

Also, if you think spending $250 on bedding is ridiculous, what makes you think others won't have the same thought?

  • I totally understand being upset and frustrated about your bedding set being discontinued and not being able to get the set you originally wanted anymore.

But $250 is way too much to be spending on bedding to be expecting others to spend on your bedding too.  If you can't imagine spending $250 on a bedding set right now with the economy you can pretty much bet that no one else will buy it for you then either.  $250 will probably be too much for them to spend as well.

I personally would look at buying separates to go with your room.  If you are dead set on having clouds on your ceiling and yellow walls then try going with Carter's separates.  Buy a pale blue or yellow dust ruffle, and bumper pad (if you plan to use one), and then buy matching or coordinating sheets to go with it.  This is what we opted for and we got 3 pieces (which as you previously implied they end up not using or not needing the rest of the pieces anyways) for less than $100.  Which is more reasonable for you and your friends/family to spend.

Pull in some other "cuter" pieces with your accessories.  Find a cute lamp that has a sun on it and put that on your registry instead.  Maybe you can find a cute blanket that has the sun and moon on it to put over the back of the crib or on the chair in the room that you can add to your registry.  I personally wanted my bedding all set up and ready to go before we ever had a shower so we bought our bedding ourselves and left other items on the registry for family and friends to buy (ie stroller, walkers, baby monitor, PNP, etc.).

Maybe you're not intending to come across this way, but as PP stated, it does seem like you are coming across throwing a tantrum and maybe not thinking straight.  Might be the pregnancy hormones or something that might be getting in the way, but I would suggest just trying to take a break from this and calm down about it and then try to deal with the situation.  That's what worked best for me when I got overwhelmed by my situation I had.  Just a little friendly advice.

  • I suggest just getting the separates as well - we rarely used the comforter - its all for show.  I personally think $250 for crib bedding is too much.  All you really need is the sheet and skirt.  I'd put more energy into finding the perfect stroller and/or car seat.

  • I don't really get the anger. PP's have offered plenty of reasonable fixes; it seems like you're hellbent on being unhappy when it comes to this particular issue.
