I didn't really do a theme. I did blue and brown colors and I decorated with stars (in the blue/brown) and the cake had stars on it. I didn't like most of the themes I saw, and I didn't want to spend a bunch of $$.
We didn't really have one--teddy bears, I guess, 'cause that was what her cake was.
But I think for her second birthday party (yes, I'm already thinking about it), we're going to do "Ladybug's Picnic." She loves that song and it will allow for a ladybug + counting theme. We'll set up a picnic blanket on the dining room floor and have picnic food (sandwiches, fruit cookies, maybe cold fried chicken, lemonade, iced tea for the grown-ups etc). Her birthday is in Feb, so I figure it will be refreshing to have a little indoor picnic around about then.
Bert and Ernie and my SIL made a bert and ernie cake. Our invites had a picture of DS with his stuffed bert and ernie. Super cute!!! The party was great!
I saw some cute themes today in my event planning catalog. Good Ship Lollipop (shirley temple), Mary Poppin's, Caterpillars/Butterflies, Buckaroo, Bedtime Stories (this one was SUPER cute-they turned the tables into beds), mystical fairies....I can't remember the rest but page me if you need help and I can look in my books.
We did Candy Land for DD and it seems to be blowing up all over the place.
Cupcakes !! Super fun and cute... We decorated with a variety of colored balloons and obviously cupcake related items... cupcake tower, giant cupcake for the birthday girl.
DD has been nicknamed our little bird since day 1. And, the party is outside in the late summer/fall so we will try to incorporate little birdies here and there.
Re: what was your birthday party "theme"
Joseph's was Pittsburgh Penguins hockey.
But beware...since we won the Stanley Cup afterwards, my husband now says that we can't change the theme.
