Baby Names

Colton & Hudson- which is more "popular"?

I honestly don't know anyone with either of these names but I did see Colton in my local paper's birth announcements 3 times so far this summer! It was one of our top picks but I really don't want to pick a name that's too trendy...

wdyt?

any other ideas for me?

Re: Colton & Hudson- which is more "popular"?

  • I only know (and distantly at that) one person with each of these names, so I'm no help. Although, I would say on this board, Hudson definitely seems to come up more than Colton.

  • Loading the player...
  • I like both. Colton is very cute!
  • According to the SSA Colton is more common.  It is ranked 98 while Hudson is ranked 176 (for 2008).  For what it is worth, I do not know anyone with either of these names.

  • Colton is pretty popular around my area with 5 to 12 year old boys and I don't think either is very common with newborns. I've never met a Hudson.

  • I know one of each, but I also know a couple of Cole's, which may end up being a nickname for Colton, so that is something else to consider.

  • I've never heard of the name Colton, which I don't like anyway.  I know 1 Hudson and I think it is OK.
  • I think Colton is more popular than Hudson, but I think Hudson is gaining popularity.
  • Colton's been in the top 100 since 1989.

Hudson just entered the top 1000 in 1995 and is steadily gaining in popularity.

  • I look up baby rooms for my website and see so many Hudson names.  It is growning fast but out of all the 1000's of room only 1 Colton.
  • Colton is more popular in my area.  I've never met a Hudson.
  • I've never met a Hudson, but I have met a Colton.  They both sound nice.

  • I don't know any Coltons but I don't really like the name.

I know one Hudson, he's 1 and 1/2 years old.  I like the name Hudson.

  • If that's in your local papers I would go with Hudson then. Around here though, the only thing/one named Hudson is the river. I never met a person named Colton or Hudson.

  • All those son names are very popular right now, Hudson is no exception. Colton reminds me of horses.?
  • I've never met or heard of anyone with the first name Hudson.

I do know several Coltons.  3 out of 4 are under 2.  IMO it's becoming very popular.

  • I don't know anyone with those names.
  • I don't know any Hudsons IRL and the one Colton I know is 17.  I prefer Hudson, if it matters.
  • I think there are 3 of us on the 12-24 month board with sons named Hudson.  I don't know any Coltons and I've only met one other Hudson IRL.  GL!

  • I love the name Hudson. It's one of my top picks for a boy.  Unfortunately I'm having a hard time convincing my husband...
  • I'm related to a Colton - he's about 8.  Hudson's was a large department store chain in the midwest until Marshall Fields (and then Macy's) bought them out.  I still see people carrying Hudson's bags and boxes.
