Does your baby still eat baby food?

DD's not too good with finger foods, and will only try a few bites of our food. So she mostly eats yogurt, and jarred baby food (although she won't eat the meat ones).

This is yet another reason why I'm hesitant to take her off formula. I just don't know how much nutrition is in jarred bananas! Anyone else dealing with this? Tips?

Re: Does your baby still eat baby food?

  • Unfortunately, yes. Lily refuses to eat almost everything I put in front of her -- the big exceptions are blueberries and chicken nuggets. I re-introduced jarred baby food at the suggestion of our nanny. It is the only way I get any veggies into her. I make sure to still offer "real" food, though, just in case she decides to buck up and EAT.

  • I still give DS the 3rd foods butternut squash sometimes just because I haven't found any butternut squash at my local market to make instead.

See, and you have a little peanut like I do. Its harder when they're small to know that they're eating right and getting enough. GL to you!

I did give her the 2nd Step formula for a while after she went to whole milk. It just made me feel better knowing she was getting some additional calories, vitamins, etc. But she's actually gained on the weight scale (in terms of her percentage of normal), so I don't worry too much anymore. I think there is a transition about now when they just don't need to eat as much as they did as babies. It's a challenging adjustment for us moms. You just gotta trust your instincts. A lot of people have suggested smoothies as a good alternative (and you can add spinach to them), but Lily won't eat those either.

  • I haven't tried smoothies yet, but she likes the consistancy of the jarred food (obviously) so that might interest her. Its worth a shot. Thank you!
  • Wow, DS is quite a bit older, is completely sufficient at eating regular food yet still eats baby food quite a bit. If we eat something that he refuses to eat, I'll generally give him some babyfood. He doesn't love it, but when he doesn't love whats for dinner even more, he gets babyfood. We also feed him the Happy Bellies veggies all the time. I love the great greens spinach pureed with pears. Sometimes DH and I don't eat so healthy and so I suppliment DS's diet with these frozen pureed veggies. He likes them and it makes me feel a lot better about the lack of vareity in his diet.
  • I beat ALL of you! My DD is STILL eating baby food because she refuses most big girl foods! We have tried everything, every tactic...you name it, we've tried it a number of times! The only big girl food she'll eat is crackers, cereals, toast and waffles! She will not eat real fruits or veggies. We didnt delay the introduction of any foods and we right on with when to start whatever foods we were supposed to start.
  • We still give DS baby food.  he will not eat any type of meat unless it is jarred.  It also depends on what we are having to eat to. Tonight he had jarred meat/veggies but than he had a fruit cup for his fruit.
