I had Sam outside yesterday and he was walking towards the garage. There is a small raise in the concrete where the driveway and garage meet. I reached out for his hand so I could help steady him as he walked over this, but he immediately squatted and wouldn't walk until I let go of his hand. I tried a couple of times and each time he would squat and pull his hand away from mine.
I later tried it in the house as he was walking. I would reach and grab his hand and again, he squatted and refused to walk.
I want to teach him that there are times he may need to hold my hand while walking, but is he still maybe a little too young to understand?
Re: At what age will they take your hand to walk?
Hmmm...I guess it just depends on the kid?
DS has held our hand since he first started to walk when we've reached for it.
Emerson didn't walk until about a month and a half ago. I've just started letting her walk to the car and she reaches for my hand to go over the door and down the two steps of the porch.
Ditto this.
OP perhaps you have a stubborn little guy! My DD will squat or go "no bones" if I try to take her out of the tub before she is ready, lol.
Kahlynne just started holding my hand at like 16 months... it was her new thing when we went to the shore.. she wanted everyone to hold her hand so she could lead them to what ever she wanted.. (everyone meaning the people we were down the shore with, Family) She held my hand and walked all the way to the beach and all around the pool deck and now she know when i reach for her hand to take it... But i had the same problem... she started walking at 10 months and finally lets me hold her hand now!
But i think all kids are different! So i am sure your LO will do it when he understands why he should be in certain situations..
I'm thinking he is stubborn also! He is so head strong and wants to do everything for himself.
