I dont post much but need some feedback. My water broke this morning; I have been admitted as they felt the risk of infection was greater than the risks of inducing/having the baby now so I am here with pitocin started. The nurse just freaked me out that the baby could need to stay beyond 38 weeks- that sounds like a long time to me? He was estimated last week by u/s at 5lb 11oz, and Jack was almost 9 lbs at 40 weeks so I am hoping this baby is really big for its age. Tell me your experinces in delivering around this time and how long, if necessar, the baby needed to stay in the hospital? Thanks!
Re: So, my water broke at 35 weeks
My DS was born at 36wks, stayed in the NICU for 5 days due to "wet lungs" and then feeding issues.
Good luck-I hope everything turns out fine!
my bff just had her baby 1.5 weeks ago at 36 weeks. The baby was required to stay in the hospital until she was 72 hours old, so like an extra day. My bff stayed as well. The baby was born 4 lb 10 oz, but my bff is also not even 5 feet tall. She had to go back into the hospital a few days later b/c of jaundice and trouble regulating her body temp. I think she was there 3 days that time. Now she is probably 10 days old, at home, and thriving.
GL to you. I'm sure everything will be just fine.
ditto ami....5 days in the NICU for TTN, or wet lung. boys are usually more at risk...they are wimps from birth! hahaha...I am SURE your baby will be fine and the nurse is just warning of the worse case scenario so you aren't blindsided.
Good luck and keep us updated!
I don't have an answer for you but good luck I hope everything goes well
each baby is different....Michelle was born at 33 weeks weighing 5lbs 12oz. She had a cpap and a feeding tube and came home 3 weeks later. There was another baby born at the same time at 36 weeks and the poor thing was intubated and just had alot of problems....he was still there when Michelle came home 3 weeks later Also another 33 weeker was born a few days later weighing 3lbs 11oz and was breathing on her own...she came home a week later.
DD was born at 36 weeks and was just fine. 100% perfect. And big- she was 7lb11oz.
Good luck, and please don't worry.
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
Good luck!!! T&P for you!
FWIW, I went into labor with DD#2 at 36w2d. She was 6lbs exactly when she was born and 100% perfect. We went home the next morning. I wanted to go home that night (she was born at 6am) but they said we had to stay for 24 hours for liability reasons (not because she was a preemie just because all babies and moms do). DD#1 came at 37w3d (so technically full term). She was tiny at 5lbs 12oz, but we also went home the next day and she was perfectly healthy. My CNM says that generally if you can make it to 35w and go into labor naturally, you and the baby should be fine. They might need a short bit of NICU (depending on the baby) but usually not even that. My pedi said the same thing. I deliver at a hospital without a NICU and tend to go early so I asked my pedi about it. He said 35w is the magic number for him.
good luck and hang in there. My DS was born at 35 weeks exactly. no time at all in the NICU though I did have the steroid lung shot at 29 weeks due to bleeding. He spent a week in the hospital (I stayed too) due to jaundice -- he lost blood from the 2 thingies they attached to his head -- they took him out of me in an emergency c so fast, I guess they forgot to take it off!
Remember, the hospital probably has to read you the "list" of what could happen. it sucks to hear it but it also made me feel a little more prepared. keep up updated and stay strong!
my dd was born at 34 weeks...5 lbs 1 oz. healthy except couldn't suck. spend 5 days in the hospital (not NICU- just nursery).
