Birth Stories

If you've had a successful VBAC, question

why did your first or previous pregnancy end up in C-section?

My first was because at 42 weeks I had no progress and an estimated 11 pound baby ( born at 10 lbs 12oz!)

I'm worried that I will not progress again this time, like maybe my body isn't designed to go in to labor.

Re: If you've had a successful VBAC, question

  • My first time I was induced at 39 weeks due to pre-e.  I dilated fully, pushed for two hours and she never crowned, so they took me in for a section.  This time I was induced again due to rising blood pressure and it took three hours of pushing and forceps, but I did successfully VBAC.  I was originally told inducing would not be an option, but I dilated far enough on my own before going to the hospital that I would not need cervadil so it became an option (I was 4 cms when I went in).  My birth story is somewhere on here.  GL!

  • my first was breech, but even though i had to have the c, my body did naturally go into labor with him, water broke and i dilated a couple weeks before scheduled c.

my second was a successful vbac. went into labor at 38wks, 4 days, water broke and went in at 4 cm.

so yes, i believe it's possible some bodies go into labor easier than others.

  • my first was breech
  • I was induced w/ my first b/c I was showing signs of Pre-E. It ended in c-section b/c of "fetal distress". ? There was one episode of heartrate decels, and my OB instantly whisked us off to the OR. ?With baby 2, I got a new OB. ?I went into labor on my own at 39 weeks 6 days. ?She was 8 lbs 4 oz and I did have to have vacuum assistance, but she was born vaginally. ?I'd say that having a VBAC supportive OB/midwife is the absolute most important thing. ?Good luck!
  • With my first I had GD and he was 9lbs 4oz, delivered at 39 weeks, I ended up with a c-section for fetal distress. I dilated to 7cm prior to the section He came out fine.

This time I was worried I was not going to go into labor on my own but I did and delivered DD VBAC on my EDD she was 7lbs 15oz. My OB was supportive of my VBAC and everyone at the hospital was great. I felt with my first that the epidural played a big part in needing a c-section. I was going to try without it this time but I had HORRIBLE back labor again and asked for one. But this time it was so much better. I could feel the contractions a little but they were not bad but I could also feel the baby moving down which I could not with DS. I pushed for 1 hour and had no tear.

I really thought I would go early this time but I didn't. Each pregnancy is different so you never know. But if your OB is supportive I would go for a VBAC. My recovery this time was 100% better and I am so glad I got to experience a vaginal birth.. GL with your VBAC!!
