NBR: Anyone read the Twlight books?

My friend offered the first book to me, and I was wondering if any of you have read them?  Are they any good?  I don't have much time with a 2 year old, but I love to read, and I make time every day for it.  Just wondering if it's worth my time.

I would love any other book suggestions too...LOL!

 Thanks,

Amy

  • Yeah, I read them all last year.  You will zip through them!  They are an easy read and very addicting.  Enjoy!

  • They are okay, not as good as everyone made them out to be.

  • Love them!  I read them on the commute to and from work on the train and also a few chapters before bed every night - couldn't put them down.

There's also Midnight Sun which is on Stephanie Meyer's website which was never published that I need to get to.

  • Yes! I read all of them...twice.  They are a great light read.  They don't require a whole lot of thought and they are fun.  I went on to read the Sookie Stackhouse series (which the True Blood series on HBO is based on), which is kind of the grown up version of Twilight.  I had a very vampire-ish summer.

  • Thanks girls!  I'm looking forward to reading it.  It makes me feel good to know that I've got about 4 books to read now. I hate to be without a book.

  • Ummmm, YES!!!  And honestly, I relived my teenage years while reading them.  I felt like I was in high school again.  Love them!  And so does DD.  :)

  • Read them all and loved them (1 and 3 much better than 2 and 4). Cheesy and poorly written but super fun.

  • Oh and my favorite book is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, a christian writer.  It is a fiction book based on the book of the bible Hosea....I have read this book 4 or more times.  I love it.  I could not put it down when I first read it, I read it in 3 days pretty much non stop....it is the best love story I have ever read in my life......I told myself after reading that book that I was going to find a man just like Michael.......and I would say DH is pretty close!

  • I may be the only person in the world but I really hated them (well, the first one, wouldn't read more after that!) even though I really wanted to like them. I just didn't think twilight was well written, it was hundreds of pages of the same "I LOVE you Edward, I love you too" blah blah without any reason why. But I think I'm probably the odd woman out on this one ;)

    This exactly.  Embarrassing, but true.

  • Ditto... definitely a teenage book.

I thought I hit quote...this was ditto about them not being as good as everyone made them out to be.  There are many things that have bugged me about it...

  • I love them! Even my DH read them even though he didn't like the "sappy parts".

  • It's a real YA lit read. They are fast and easy reads that you can breeze through and you can skim it and still get the gist of the storyline (girl meets boy, boy meets girl, they fall in love but promise never to have sex. Evil people try to break them up. What more is there?! LOL)

I found it to have contrived scenes, poor character development, and stilted conversations.

Nobody finds it creepy that a guy hangs out in your bedroom while you sleep and says "I like to watch you sleep?"  Or the overprotective, borderline obsessive "I follow you everywhere and beat people up who try to get close to you" boyfriend? Also the obnoxious "I know better than you because I'm a bajillion years old and still look hot" is so contrived.
