as it stands DD will fall asleep and stay asleep if rocked for 5-10 minutes. we are on the last stage of un-swaddling (arms are completely free, miracle blanket wrapped around chest and tummy) and she takes a pacifier.
she will sleep from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. when we wake her for one last feeding and then from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. or 6 a.m.
do you only use Ferber when they are not STTN? or do I use it to break the rocking habit? i love rocking her and it's our little quiet time to decompress from the hectic day but i don't want to compromise her ability to fall asleep on her own later down the road.
thoughts? advice? tell me to STFU?
Re: Does One Need Ferber If Baby Sleeps Fine?
Heehee, I understand what you are asking, but from the title of your post, I had a mental picture of you waking up your DD at night so she could cry and you could check on her in intervals.
I'm no expert, but I rock my DD before bed too and I just consider it part of our nightly ritual. She is usually awake when I put her in the crib, which I think is the important part.
Go with your gut. We used Ferber with great success, but we were in a totally different situation. If you love rocking your baby, I wouldn't stop. If it turns out to be a problem down the road, I'd deal with it then. But it might not ever be a problem. My mom rocked me to sleep every night for the first year because she wanted to, and I never had trouble sleeping.
Again, go with your gut!!
LOL.
My Pedi told us at DS 4 month visit to start putting him to sleep awake. Up until then I rocked him in the chair until he fell asleep. To start weaning him of this I would rock him until he was drowsy but still awake and then put him in his crib so he could finish the rest. Finally, he started resisting being rocked and I now just put him in his crib wide awake. He whines for a few min. then I go in and give him a few pats and rub his head. This usually puts him out.
Doc said to stop rocking because if you don't it will become a sleep prop.
Just my opinion.
STFU!
I rock Mo and I love it too. I think she will eventually just sleep al the way through. It sounds like she likes her sleeping habits.
