I am supposed to have a snack with 1 protein serving and 30 g. carbs at night. I need help because NOTHING is working!! Ok girls, here is what I have tried (and failed because I need to be below 95)and the fasting number the next morning:
cheerios with milk (30 g. carb) - 99
veggies with ranch dip (0 g. carb)- 117
toast with peanut butter (22 g. carbs) - 113
no snack - 107
12 oz beer (yes, I have 1 per week) and 1 small slice pizza (30 g. carbs)- 107
oven fries with cheese (15 g. carbs)- 101
2 wheat crackers with cheese (7 g. carbs) - 107
string cheese with toast and peanut butter (22 g. carbs) - 110
Re: Snacks before bed to lower fasting #??
My go-to snacks are usually apple slices with peanut butter, a light yogurt half frozen with a handful of cooked chicken slices on the side, or a SF pudding with peanut butter on the side or a string cheese... My diet build wants one milk serving, one starch/fruit/etc, and one protein with my midnight snack.

I had 1 piece of bread with PB and a glass of milk and mine was 93 this morning. But my "meal plan" says to have 1 milk, 1 starch, 1 protein and 1 fat. I just skipped the fat since PB is considered a "fatty meat"
So you would eat apple slices and PB and yogurt and chicken all in the same snack?? Sheesh, I can't fit that much food in me!!
Nononono - those are my paired up snacks. Apples with PB OR a yogurt with chicken slices OR pudding with PB or string cheese. I'm so full all of the time that I can barely get my way through any of those by the time the end of the night rolls around. The only thing I look forward to is my 1 cup of skim milk (I crave milk!).

OK PHEW.... i was wondering where you fit it all. I have to force myself to have a snack at night! Yes, I crave milk too. I usually have a glass with dinner. mmm...
Thanks for the info. I will try some of those combos. Have your fasting levels ever been too high?

Hard boiled egg helps me to keep my fasting # in the 80's. Last night i had a protien bar and it was 92 this AM
Just a hard boiled egg? What about the 30 g. carbs I am supposed to be having?
I had it explained to me that the # of carbs noted on each meal is a suggestion, not a requirement. I usually have less and try to have more protein, it seems to give me better results.

My fasting numbers were on the high side so I tired the south beach protein bars - pretty good. and they seem to lower my fasting number. I have also had an english muffin with sausage.
Crazy as it sounds - the past few night I have had plain vanilla ice cream and my numbers have been really good.

Hmmm interesting.. I am starting to think that because there is nothing I can do to get them down!
Same here. Also, I am NOT supposed to cut carbs out at night. I could eat maybe 20-25 g instead of 30, but my dietitian felt very very strongly that I should stay as close to the carb limit as I could. She said cutting out carbs at night (or any time) can lead to keytones. That could be b/c I am on medicine though... if I don't eat carbs I get super low blood sugar.
In some of the snacks you've listed I don't see any protein at all? the cheerios and veggies and dip?
My plan says 1 protein and 1 carb for evening snack - which is exactly what a south beach bar has in it (I recommend the chocolate ones, though the peanut butter are good too).
I also have a bunch of 100 calorie packs of cookies and I'll eat one of those with peanut butter - though I usually have to throw in some celery too to get all that PB down.
Greek yogurt has 10g protein in a half cup and only 4 carbs. I throw in half a nature valley granolabar or some other carb and that gives me good numbers too.
Or something like eating cottage cheese for protein and then eating a skinny cow fudgsicle for the carb.
My dietician told me I could skip a couple servings of carbs here and there, but not to reduce them too much. You might try going for just one serving of carb before bed.
