Florida Babies

What do kids wear in Florida?

Hi girls, I'm currently living in Michigan right now, but moving to Florida next week for my husbands job.   We have about 6 bins of my son's old baby clothes, and maternity clothes.  Most of them are warmer because he was born in January.  I hate to throw any baby stuff out since when we have baby #2 who knows if it's going to be another boy or not.   So really my question is, do babies in florida wear heavy clothes, such as sweatpants, sweaters, heavy sleepers??   I hate to bring more than what we will possibly use since we already have so much stuff to bring.   I would love to donate or get rid of a lot of baby stuff if I could before we move.   Thanks!

Re: What do kids wear in Florida?

  • Hi Stacey,

You're moving to Naples?  There is a big difference between North Florida and South Florida (well, for us Floridians there is!).  In the Naples area, I would say that you might get a week or two of what we consider winter weather - maybe gets into the 40's.  I'm pregnant with my first, so I can't speak to what babies/kids wear, but as an adult that has lived all over the state, I can tell you that I definitely get use out of my sweaters, long sleeve shirts, long pants, etc. during the winter.  Just to give you an idea - my sisters live in Washington State and Chicago.  My wedding was in February this year in the Tampa/Clearwater area (about 2.5 hours north of Naples).  The week leading up to the wedding was cold - not just Florida cold - my sisters were cold.  But then a few days later it was in the 70's....it can be kinda schitzo.

  • I agree - the weather can be annoying - a jacket/sweater one day, and tank top the next.  I don't think you will need that much warm clothes.  Focus more on layers, instead of heavy one pieces.  I still have piles of winter clothes that I haven't been able to wear all of in years from when I lived in NJ!
  • I would keep some of them..but not 6 bins worth. My son wears a lot of sweatpants at night in the winter. He will need a few jackets and long sleeves, but no snowsuits. I would say keep some of your fav in each size.
  • Thanks everybody for the replies.  I ended up donating all the stuff from 6 months on, and I am keeping the baby stuff.   I just cannot bring myself to part with all the clothes, maybe I'm just being sentimental to babies or something.  We do plan on trying for #2 in the next couple months so I hate to have to re-buy all those things.   thanks girls!!
