All of a sudden hating bathtime?

My DD is a little over a year old and in the last two weeks or so bathtime has become a nightmare.  We have been using the big bathtub since she was around 7 months old and have had no troubles.  Is this is a phase?  Right now I have to hold her in the tub while DH does the washing and it seems to upset her so much I hate it!  Any other suggestions?

Re: All of a sudden hating bathtime?

  • A good frined went through this. She tried everything - new toys, more bubbles, stuff to write with, alphabet letters... everything. One day, her DD started putting everything into a bucket and put the bucket in the closet. Turned out her DD thought there was too much in the tub! You can't win. But at least she now takes very empty baths. :)

My DD went through this right after she had a fever and I forced her into an ice bath. She was traumatized and wouldn't go back in for a week. It took some slow "just put your hand in it," "look, your doll is in the tub" kind of bribing.

So try new stuff (toys, especially ones she likes outside the tub are good) and give it time. You are not alone.

  • It was a phase for us.  We went through it with DD a few times.  Giving her a new toy seems to help.  We tried to do something different with her bath, like add bubbles one night, and skip it the next.  It seems to keep her interested.  Good luck!
