Hi ladies ? from someone on TTTC

Has anyone taken Metformin without PCOS?  DId it make a difference.

MY RE is not sure if I am reacting well to injectables and better on Clomid anyone have a good result going back to Clomid from injectables?

I am just looking for any kind of hope here.  Thanks ladies.

  • I never took Metformin, but I have a comment about the meds.

My first RE said they never step backwards.  As in after moving on to injectables, we wouldn't go back to Clomid as that would be back-stepping.  Maybe your doctor feels differently.

Maybe you just aren't on the right mix of injectable meds.  I did a lot better with Menopur along with Follistim than I did with Menopur alone.  That was for IUI cycles.

There is always hope - and don't lose yours.

  • I took metformin for a few months even though I never had  PCOS diagnosis - I can't say that it made a difference for me, but I have heard that it can be a good thing to try because in some women it really does improve egg quality.

I would not recommend going back to clomid - it just has WAY too many anti-estrogenic side effects (thin lining, cysts, dry CM) to go back on it unless it has worked really well.  Can you try femara, if you want to try something milder?

GL Koyn - you've had a tough road and you deserve a turnaround!!

  • Ditto epphd, I'd give Femara a try if Clomid seemed to be working, but I wouldn't go back to Clomid. Or stick with the injects. In what way are they not working?

I did Metformin alone for 6 months before trying Clomid. I will say that I think it regulated my blood sugar a bit - prior to the met, I felt very sluggish after eating, and after it seemed that my energy levels were much more consistent throughout the day. Unfortunately, it did not seem to do much for my fertility. I was anovulatory before and anovulatory after. The only thing that worked for me was injects.

I will ask about Femera.  The I used 2 menapor and 1 Bravelle my first cycle and I got 19 eggs but all were immature at retrieval.  6 matured overnight and we ended up having 1 embie transfered on Day6. (8 days after retrieval).  My second cycle we did 1 and 1 and it was to little as I had 5 follicles but only 1 egg that wasn't mature and never did.  I just wonder if it is the meds and not necessarily me.  Is that possible?

    Thank you everyones response.

  • I was first told I had PCOS from Nurse and they put me on Glumetza I believe that is the same as met. It controlled blood sugar and helped me drop 20lbs very quick.  So in that regards I think it helped.  When I saw RE next visit he didn't think I had PCOS or atleast not very much if I did.

I was very impatient in trying so we went right to injectables and skipped clomid.  With the 3 iuis we did Folistim pin after that I asked if we should try Clomid and he said that was a step back and not worth doing.  We moved on the IVF and I took 2 menipur and 2 bravelle and I am preg. now.  I took the glumetza till about 3 months preg OB seemed to think it was good to take as well. I have unexplained IF.  So I just went with what they said.  Could I tell which drugs helped and which didn't, NO.  It seemed to be a guessing game and I took what they told me to take.  I was taking up to 9 meds at a time at some points in the last cycle.

Sorry for all th miss spelled drug names. haha

    Good luck.
