anyone getting an enema?

i have a colonic one time and it was AWFUL im hoping maybe an enema wont be quit as bad? what are you planning on doing getting an enema or pooping on the table? my bf says im gonna poop on the baby hes such a jerk!

Re: anyone getting an enema?

  • Huh? You are getting an enema before labor so you don't poop on the table?

Honestly, pooping on the table doesn't even remotely cross my mind these days. I'm more scared of the baby coming out of the vag.

  • No, I am not getting an enema. I really have no fear of pooping on the table. If it's going to happen it's going to happen. They clean it up so fast many women don't even realize they do it.

L&D staff see this stuff every day, so it's not like it's a huge shock to them.

  • I thought giving enemas before labor wasn't really done anymore?

Pooping on the table is the least of my concerns with L&D.

  • I totally pooped, and I didn't care one bit!  I just wanted that baby out of there!

Oh, and the nurses clean you up so quickly that you hardly know that it happened.

  • my friend had her baby a month ago and they encouraged her to have an enema she was pissed though because she ended up having a c-section i havent decided yet im just curious as to what others plan on

    My thoughts exactly!

  • The nurse at my hospital said she would rather have someone poop on the bed rather than throw up. lol

  • Pooping on the table was the last thing that crossed my mind the day I was in labor. I thought I would care... but I didn't. Nurses have seen it all!

  • At the beginning of my pregnancy I was worried about pooping on the table, but at this point I just hope everything goes successfully!
  • There are much bigger things to be worried about than pooping during labor

  • I was happy I pooped during delivery because that way I knew I was doing it right, lol. My sister, the nurse, DH and I were all laughing.
  • I don't plan on an enema but don't let the other posters make you feel bad... I think that it is totally normal to worry about it, I will and have and this is my 3rd baby!
  • I'm not interested in one.  That problem is embarrassing to think about, but probably won't cross my mind, or at least I won't care at the moment.  Any nurses or doctors are probably very used to it happen.  I don't know anyone who's given birth who hasn't had it happen at least once.
  • I might get one, why not? I'm not afraid to say I don't want to crap all over a table in front of my DH. . . of course its not my top concern, but who wants to deal with that?

Its supposed to speed up the whole process too, although there is no guarantee that it will prevent you from crapping all over the place later.

I agree. I talked to my doctor about it and he told me he has no problem with it which made me a little relieved that he's used to it and won't be judgmental about it. My mother and older cousin said they didn't care when it came to pushing and it wasn't even on their mind at that point when the baby was coming out. I'm deciding towards not getting an enema unless I worry again being embarrassed pooping in front of everyone that are not nurses and doctors, but I doubt it.

  • I used to work as a CNA, so I've seen plenty of poop in my time, and I wouldn't be embarassed to be on the other side of it during childbirth.  There's going to be a baby coming out of my vagina, for goodness sake!  Besides, I'm much more worried about vomiting (I have a weird phobia of vomiting in front of other people, or even where they can hear me) than pooping.

Just for the record, though, I've had enemas in the past, and they're not bad at all.

  • We took a childbirth class at the hospital we're delivering at and they encouraged us to get to the hospital and take their enema. The nurse said that it would clean you out enough so that the first poop after delivery isn't so bad...?

  • I got one w/my first baby.  It's pretty standard at the hospital where I delivered, especially if it's a scheduled induction.  If I have time I'll get one again.  The longer it takes for the first poopie to come after having a baby, the better. :)
