How can I keep her hair out of her eyes?

DD is starting to get longer hair and its in her eyes all the time.  I keep putting it up in a "ponytail" or pig tails, but she pulls the rubber bands out.  I don't think she'd keep on a headband either since she's always taking hats off.  The rubber bands I'm using are the tiny cloth ones made by Goody.  Should I use regular tiny rubber bands, like the non cloth kind?  Im so afraid that she will swallow one when she pulls them out of her hair.  I watch her like a hawk of course, but if she's in her pack n play while I run to the bathroom or something, whenever I come back, she's pulled it out of her hair and is chewing on it.

Is there anything else I can do, short of cutting her bangs? (Which I'd rather not do)

  • i use the little plastic-y rubber bands that they use for braids. they are a little harder to pull out. she still does sometimes, but if i get them in while she's drowsy or otherwise distracted and make them tighter, she leaves them alone.

that's all i got, we're fighting the same battle.

  • Can you clip them back with a bow? I put two in DD's hair, a real one to secure the bangs and I hold a decoy one up there for her to pull. She gets such satisfaction in thinking that she ripped it out.

For a awhile if she caught a glance of herself in a mirror she would realize my trick and pull the real bow out. Now shes in a phase to love having stuff in her hair so she usually leaves it in which is great!

  • Use the little rubber band ones.  And do it tight when she'll let you.  I do DD's while she's eating in high chair or watching TV.  Hers is in her hair too if I don't.  If its tight enough it should be hard to get out and they are so small I don't think they would be a choking hazard if she did try to chew it.
