2nd Trimester

Was told 85% sure its a girl!?

Im measuring 17 weeks and after 20 minutes of looking she said "Im about 85% its a girl because I havent seen anything resembling a penis and usually by now you see something if its a boy."  Im sooo nervous she is wrong!  Anyone else have this happen?

  • I got told 80% at 18.5 weeks, and now at like 24/25 weeks am up to 95% which I'm going with.

  • Everything I have read has said it is not accurate to determine a gender of girl just based on the lack of boy parts. They need to see the 3 lines to confirm girl.

  • When I had my 17 week ultrasound, the tech said "at this point, it looks like a girl, but I'm not going to say for sure." Very dissapointing, especially since I don't have another ultrasound until 30+ weeks! DH and I have just been pretending like we don't know and we scheduled a 4D/gender determination ultrasound for next month so we can find out for sure.

  • The tech had told us at 2 appointments, I think around 14 and 16 weeks that she was 80% sure it was a girl. She could not see any boy parts but we could also see three lines. At the 20 week appointment they showed us the 3 lines again and on 3d her little girl parts. I still have days where I am not convinced just because of stories you hear of finding out later it is the opposite sex.

Are you going to have another appointment at 20 weeks or do you plan to have any 3d ultrasounds done?

  • Also, not sure if she's on today, but Mrs.Garciatobe was told girl (I think they told her 80% sure?) and she is having a boy.

  • My SIL was told she was 85% having a girl and sure enough I have a 3 year old niece.  That's one of my debates - if we can't find out at our u/s do I want to go to a 4D u/s place and pay to have one done to find out.  I'm so impatient I highly doubt I'd be able to wait!

it isn't necessary to see 3 lines, and the tech is probably correct, however 85% isn't positive, especially if it took 20 minutes to become 85% I wouldn't paint anything pink yet...

  • Agree with pp--you need to see the three lines to confirm girl.  We saw three lines clear as day at our 19w3d u/s.  The tech told us she was 99.9% sure (only because she never says 100%).  I got online before my u/s to look at other girl and boy u/s pics so I would know what each looked like--I was able to call it as soon as the tech moved the u/s wand to our baby girl's parts!!  I hope you get another u/s to confirm--I'd be rather nervous choosing girl items on my registeries and so forth if someone told me they were only 85% positive it was a girl!  Good luck.
  • I wasn't even given a %, but the tech thought the baby was a girl. I have another U/S in about an hour, so I hope we get a better picture.

Our tech said pretty much this same thing.  She said she never calls it a girl just because she doesn't see a penis.  If she doesn't clearly see the 3 lines of the "girl parts" then she says she can't tell for sure.

  • I went from a team uncooperative baby at 18 and 22 weeks to a 98.5% certainty that it was a girl yesterday at 23 weeks 3 days.  The baby's legs were apart, but the knees were bent.  The OB said that she could see the tell-tale "3 lines" which told her girl, but since the knees were bent she couldn't be 100% positive.

  • At 16w4d we had an u/s (where our LO didn't cooperate very well) and OB told us she was 90% sure it was a girl. We saw what we thought were a couple of lines and no penis, etc. Well 2 weeks later at our Level II u/s we were shocked to find out our little girl was indeed a boy. If you are having another u/s anytime soon I would hold out!!!
  •   Well I went today for ultrasound for my Twins and well they saw 3 lines-girl and boyish parts- boy!  How accurate do think this will be.. I clearly saw a difference in parts but didnt know if could change or not... They didnt not confirm it so i have 4 weeks to wait but I am keeping my fingers crossed
  • We were told 90% sure it was a girl at 20w1d. I'm still a little apprehensive because we didn't see the telltale lines but I did the Boy or Girl test at week 15 and it had said girl too so I kinda think its actually a girl. The doctor did what he called the "shake test" where he shook the U/S probe on my belly and looked for little boy parts flopping around. Really professional don't you think?
  • I was told by my specialist at 17 weeks a 90% chance our baby was a girl.  Keep in mind he has the high res equipment.  At 18.5 weeks my reg OB couldn't get a clear shot but said she didn't see anything to indicate a boy so her guess was a girl. At 21 weeks my specialist confirmed 100% our baby is a girl due an extensive sono we had because of the poss. of Downs.  So I guess after 3 times a girl it is!  I currently have 3 sons and I was told 12 years ago that my middle son was a girl up until 8 months.  I blame that on the technology/equipment then and the lack of sonograms I had received.  That's why I was so hesitant with this baby.
