Babies: 0 - 3 Months

anybody ever try flying by yourself with baby?

I will be traveling with Lo in a couple of weeks by myself and was hoping to travel with only a baby carrier (sling).  Have any of you traveled without a stroller and only a sling?

  • I did. It was super easy to do it that way.

Give yourself some extra time when you get to the airport ... when you check in, go to the gate and see if they can put you in the bulkhead seats so you can have some extra room to maneuver yourself.

  • i will be flying from PA to CA on Thursday and I'm not bringing my stroller or car seat bc my sister has one. He's going to be in the sling and/or Bjorn the whole time. I hope it works out, just seems like the less I have to carry around the better!

  • I'm doing this exact thing next week!  Good luck!

  • I did it with a moby style wrap and it was great. They make you remove the baby during take off and landing but other than that DD could stay in. It was wonderful.

  • I did this a few weeks ago.  I did have the stroller / carseat that I checked at the gate and wore him in a sling on to the plane.  I only had one issue with the one stewardess... she tried to make me take him out of the sling when we were taking off, but I through a blanket over myself and pretended like I was feeding him.  I didn't think I should have to wake him and I thought it would be safer if he was on me rather than me holding him.

  • I did it but only one way.  It worked pretty well except for the fact that my DD isn't crazy about the sling.  FYI you cannot wear your LO during take off and landing.  They have to sit in your lap.

I'm pretty sure the reason they do this is if something happens and you are injured and someone needs to get baby off you they can. FYI. I was going to wear DS when I traveled last month, but I didn't want to mess w/ taking him out, putting him back, etc. So I gate-checked the car seat instead. Southwest even checked on all my flights to see if there was a spare seat for the car seat  for me, which I thought was really nice of them.
