i have a jeep liberty (about the same size) and i am getting the Sunshine Kids Radian 65. It's not only a great car seat but it works well in compact spaces. Also awesome for travelling as it folds up flat.
DH has the Maxi Cosi Priori and it fits well in his small(er) sedan. It is also incredibly comfortable for DS. I just replaced my Britax Diplomat (which DS was NOT comfortable in) with the Roundabout 50 and it is a good bit larger, so if space is limited you might be better off with the original Roundabout. But overall I recommend the Priori, of the 3 seats we've had.
Honestly, I do not recommend any 40 lb seats. Also, avoid the 3-in-1's (Eddie Bauer, Alpha Omega). All of these have very short shells and will be outgrown way before your child is of booster age (age 5-6 years). If you can get an infant seat, you can almost always get a RF convertible. An infant seat needs a full 45 degree incline, now that your baby is older you can go as upright as 30 degrees. You can get a 65 lb seat in your car. You will need the height aspect of a larger seat. Bottom line, kids outgrow seats by height not weight. I'd recommend the Britax Marathon, Roundabout 50, Boulevard, Evenflo Triumph Advance, First years True Fit,Graco My Ride and the Sunshine Kids Radian.
I'd recommend going to BRU and try these in your car. The only one BRU doesn't carry instore is the Radian. You'd have to find that one at a local baby boutique.
Personally, I own the Marathon, Boulevard, and a Roundabout 50. I will be buying a Radian next.
We have the Radian 85 and LOVE it. It's much more narrow than anything else we looked at, and we knew we'd need to fit at least 2, maybe 3 at some point. The only negative is that they are super heavy (it'a actually a safety feature, so not really a negative) they are just a pain to transfer from car to car...but we rarely do that anyway.
We just got the Graco My Ride 65 two days ago and so far I'm in love! Abigail seems much happier too. I'm in an Explorer and we have plenty of extra room!
I have a 2007 CRV and we have the True Fit with ARB and LOVE it! Plenty of room to install it. Especially since you can remove the head rest for rear facing until the child reaches a certain height.
