This may seem like a silly question coming from someone who had a c-section before but mine was not typical.... I had my son at 27 weeks, the NICU staff was in the room and he was intubated and rushed out. I barely saw him...
Anyway, what is it typically like when you have a c-section? I know you cannot really hold the baby immediately afterward because your getting sewn up etc, but does DH hold the baby? Where does the baby go? What about recovery? I went into this random room for a few hours and they pushed on my belly (hurt like crazy) then to my hospital room but if DS had not have been in the NICU would he have been with me?
I am (trying not to get my hopes up) thinking that I may actually have a non-NICU baby and wondering what it would be like!!
Re: For those that have previously had a c-section...
They were checking his vitals while I was being stitched up and then took him down to the nursery for a weigh in and all that good stuff.
Once I was done being stitched up, they wheeled me into the recovery room and brought DS to me to try breastfeeding. An LC actually is the one that brought him over to show me the ropes. After he was done feeding, they took him back to the nursery for his first bath, etc and I went to my post partum room. They brought him back to me after a couple of hours.
From what I can remember, they checked him, cleaned him, and wrapped him up. FI brought him over to me, they let me touch him and then he was taken to the nursery.
After I was stiched up they wheeled me to recovery and FI was in there with Dillon and I got to try BF'ing.

beautiful day
I guess it depends on your hospital. I can give two examples out of my 4 c-sections. The beginning part is pretty much the same for both, assuming there are no complications of Mom or baby.
Baby delivered, sometimes a quick peek at baby, while they work on you (placenta stichting etc) they check the baby, do their thing, Dad gets to watch, take pics, then he gets to hold baby, that is when you can really look. On one they even placed baby on me while I was on table because DH was so excited and talking to everyone, I couldn't get a look at baby and the nurse grabbed him from my DH and gave him to me, lol.
#1 Baby goes to nursery, Mom goes to recovery room. One hospital brought the baby by right before we were transferred to our room (baby#3), the other brought baby after we I was in my room. (babies #1 & 2)
#2 Baby is moved into recovery area right before Mom, and you meet up with baby in there. Then right away I was kind of sitting up, and they had us do skin to skin, and start BF. It was so cool, I just got to snuggle with him. We hung out there until I could go to my room, and we all went together. This was with #4, hospital had changed into one of those baby friendly hospitals or whatever, and it was sooo nice. They delay the baths etc that they used to whisk LO's off to the nursery for. I will have the same for this last baby.
Here is my experience.
They get baby out show them real quick over the sheet and then take them immeadiately to get checked out (still in the same room) - as long as everything looks good - thenDH got to hold him and bring him next to my head so I could see him. Then they take him to the nursery for more checking stuff out, bath etc which I got stiched up and sent to recovery. Once in recovery they brought him to me so I could try to start bfing right away and hold him.
