So I move glacially slow when it comes to solids (in part due to a month long diaper rash battle brought on by food reactions) - but Jack is a great little eater - loves his cereal(s), fruits, and both orange and green veggie purees. We do some homemade but mostly feed organic jarred.
How did you introduce chunkier foods? I gave him an Earth's Best Lentil "dinner" the other night (consisting of apple/carrot/lentil) and it was a chunky puree - he gagged a few times and then finally gagged and barfed a bunch up on his bib. He was not gagging due to the taste - he liked it - it was the chunkier texture. I have read the gagging is normal - but my poor husband was so freaked out (luckily he had left the room before my little guy actually yakked it up.)
Anyway - tips? And how do I get over my choking fears? I am not a fast mover on solids and I'm OK with this but do want to keep moving along at our slow pace. Thanks!!

Re: Moms: Intro'ing Chunkier Foods After Purees - help!
How old is Jack? I think I started giving Reed mum mums to feed himself soon after the baby cereal. Then when he became comfortable eating those, I gave him bananas in small chunks. They pretty much dissolved in his mouth and he loved the independence of feeding himself. I really found he didn't like the baby foods with chunks for a looonngg time. He actually transitioned to "finger foods" before adapting to chunky prepared baby foods.
And the choking is freaky, especially for Dads and MILs.
The Earths Best Lentil Dinner was one of Fentons Favorites!
We had similar issues with Fenton when starting chunky foods. Puffs worked wonders with Fen they melt in the mouth the reason they helped was because it gave Fenton the opportunity to get the hang of how foods feel differently in the mouth
When I was just doing the second foods, I started with the puffs, mum mums, and cheerios. there is always some gagging for the first few times and it is disturbing, but they really do catch on and get the hang of it after a few times. I asked my pedi about it and she was like.. totally normal. They are just getting used to it.
I use the Gerber and Beech Nut 3rd foods and they can be pretty chunky. It worried me at first but they LOVE them now. And i am slowly adding more things like cut up cheese, fruite, pancakes, waffles, and real crackers.
Just try something new every couple days. Definitely do the puffs and mum mums!
