As many of you already know, my little guy ain't so little. He was born 9lb 4oz and already weighs over 16lbs and he's barely over 3 months old. But I was thinking about it last night, at what age do babies double their birth weight?
For some reason, I thought I had read six months somewhere, but Mikey hit 15 lbs. (double his birth weight of 7 lb.s 8 oz.) at about three months. (Edited: It may have been a week or two past three months, but he's definitely over 15 lbs now.) And - he had extra visits to the pediatrician at the beginning because he lost weight after leaving the hospital. I'll be curious to see what his stats are at his four month appointment in a week, but as far as I can tell from my reading of the tiny print on the growth chart, I think he's still on the same curve he's been on since he got past the early weight loss problem.
DD is about there right now... just over 6 months.
Is your DS following a regular curve? Like, remaining consistent at his visits? Also, is his height proportional to weight?
He seems to be consistent in his weight gain and has been/is in the 90th percentile for both height and weight. Nothing seems to be abnormal. He's got a few rolls, but so did DH. He's going to the pediatrician on Friday, so he'll get checked out again.
Both of mine doubled around 4mo. Maggie was 6lbs at birth and just over 12 lbs at her 4mo appt. Molly was 7.5 at birth and she just weighed in yesterday at 14lbx 12oz.
Molly was 6lbs 15oz at birth and at her 5 month appt she was 14lbs 10oz (she was 12 and a half lbs at 4 months) - so she doubled somewhere between 4 and 5 months.
Both of my kids doubled by 4 months and slowed down a lot after that. DD didn't even triple by a year. The ped will tell you if there is anything to be worried about but he sounds fine to me.

the "rule" is - double the birth weight at 6 mo, triple at 12 mo but as PPs said, it's more impt that your DS follows the curve
DD was 7lbs 4oz at birth, 14lbs at 4 mo, 15lbs at 5 mo and 16lbs at 6 mo
so she doubled her weight before 5mo old
she'll be close to tripling it at 12 mo old, she's almost 20lbs at 10 mo

DS doubled his birthweight by 7 months. He didn't triple it until he was 15 months old--most kids are supposed to do it by 12 months.
ETA: DS was a lot smaller than your DC though. He was 7 lbs 6 oz at birth and 6 lbs 12 oz when we left the hospital.
