Another interview follow up? Yes or No?

So I interviewed for a job (that I'm VERY interested in) on July 29. He seemed very excited that I was available immediately, which made me think they were ready to fill it ASAP. I called on Aug 6 to follow up, and he said they hoped/planned to make a decision by the end of that week, or first of the next (which was last week). He said they would contact those who were not chosen as well, once an offer had been extended.

This Wednesday will mark 3 weeks since the interview, and I've still not heard anything. I'm feeling bummed, but at the same time, trying to keep my hopes up a little, since he said they'd contact those who were not chosen as well. I was thinking about sending a follow up email, since I have already called, just to touch base once more.

Here's what I plan to send:

Hi (Interviewer),

I hope you are doing well. I interviewed with you on July 29 for the HR Generalist position with (company). I had not heard anything, so I thought I would follow up with you once more.

I am still very interested in this opportunity, and am eager to hear of your decision. If I can provide any additional information regarding my resume or background, please let me know.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
MrsHughes, PHR

1. Should I follow up again at all, considering I already made a follow up call? Should I just wait it out?

2. Does the email sound ok? I wanted to keep it short and sweet. Does it sound like I'm annoyed that I haven't heard back? (that's what I'm trying to avoid!)

TIA!

Ugh. I hate this.  Crying

Re: Another interview follow up? Yes or No?

  • I would but I woudn't say "so I thought I would follow up with you once again"  just say wanted to follow up.  The rest sounds good!  GL

  • I think that sounds really good. When you got done with the initial interview did you send a thank you note or email? I would say there is nothing wrong with following up again, esp since they told you they would be calling everyone. Who knows what the hold up could be.

  • ditto nlsanchez :) I read that part and saw you sitting there typing that out and rolling your eyes! Can you just reply to another email about the job so he has your name associated w/ the position, rather than formally restating the position you applied for etc?

I'd say follow up, but just make it a quick email (like maybe just the 2nd paragraph). You could mention that you were curious where you stood with this opportunity as you have another one in the works (though the State job isn't ideal... you could use it as leverage.) It's like in real estate, when you hear someone else is looking at a house you want, if you know others want it, all the sudden you don't want to wait! You want that house NOW.

  • Thanks ladies... What do you mean, McJ? I'm not annoyed....Confused

I did send a thank you note the day after the interview.

And, I don't have any emails from him to respond to. We have not corresponded by email before. I got his business card, which is how I got his email address.

I was hesitant to bring up the other opportunity (or any opportunity) for leverage... Hmm. I'll have to think on that...

Ugh. Just hire me. Someone.. (Anyone... )

  • I would follow up but agree with pp to make a bit more "breezy"? maybe. Like something along the lines of...

    Hi blah blah,

I hope you are doing well.  I enjoyed interviewing with you on blah blah for blah position.  I just wanted to take a moment to touch base with you, as I am still very interested in this opportunity and am eager to hear of your decision. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can provide any additional information blah blah.

Not sure if all of that is grammatically correct but something along those lines.  I keep hoping you'll be posting soon that you got the job.  What is taking them so long?!?!  GL!!

  • I agree with flamencogal...  And I don't really like the idea of using the other job as leverage.  I'd leave that out- I think it sounds manipulative.
  • I sent the email this morning...pretty much used flamencogal's suggestion and made it short and sweet.

I did leave out the info about other job, just because I felt weird about it, and I don't feel like it's even sort of guaranteed that I'll be offered that one (not that they'd know that, but still)..I can just see that back firing (because my luck thus far has been so FANTASTIC! Confused)

So....we'll see what response I get. I hate this. Sad

  • I just noticed that Nora has the same outfit as Holly does in your siggy!  So cute... anyway...

This could totally be wrong, bc things can just take forever in the hiring process.... but when things take a while like this for me, it could be a few situations... they may be interviewing other last minute candidates, they may have an internal candidate that needs to be interviewed.... or they may be waiting on a response from another candidate before they notify the others... I hope it's not the situation and the hiring process can be ridiculously slow sometimes... GL!

  • I just wanted to say I can (somewhat) relate. DH was just in the exact same situation w/ the timing and everything. His follow-up yesterday didn't get the answer we had hoped for. I hope things work out better for you, I'm pulling for you!
