Kadence for a boy?

My husband LOVES the name Kadence for a boy and we call him Kade. I thought it sounded like a cute boy name, but I see it as a girl name everywhere. What do you think? any middle name suggestions? We like Kadence Austin  and Kadence Alexander. Tell me the truth.

Re: Kadence for a boy?

  • Like the name Kadence and love the nn Kade!  Austin and Alexander are both great middle names as well and sound great with Kadence.  I've never heard it as a girls' name, sounds more masculine to me.  And that's my TRUE opinion! Wink

  • It sounds too feminine, even if you call him Kade.  I think Kade with a K is very feminine in and of itself.  I would spell it Cade, though its NMS.

  • It doesn't sound feminine or masculine to me. I'm not fond of the name though.
  • I've only met girl Kadences. Why not just name him Kade/Cade if you like that? It's a cute name.
    Blank!
  • Being that a cadence is a military march, I think it's plenty masculine. In fact, I think it's a fairly ridiculous name for a girl. It looks like the parents couldn't spell Candace, or couldn't pronounce it.

    I wouldn't use a K though.

  • kadence is totally a girls name. it sounds way feminine to me. could you just go with kade?

  • I also think Kadence is very feminine.  Kade I think is fine for a boy but I just imagine he would be given a hard time for having a girl's name.

  • Kadence for a girl, Kaden or Kaedan for a boy. Almost every baby name website thinks Kadence is female.
  • There are lots of definitions for cadence not just the military march thing, it has a much broader musical meaning and also refers to other various things.

Either way, I find the name really feminine with or without a K and have only ever known girls with this name.

I agree why not just Kade if you like that or Cain if you like that kind of sound?

  • I associate Kadence with girls, especially with the K. (Because I know Cameron boys and Kameron girls, Cory boys and Kory girls, etc.)

I suggest Cade or Caden instead.

This. Of course, I also think Caden has never sounded much like a boy's name, personally.

Sure... but sometimes associations and trends trump what a name "sounds like." And basically right now there are a LOT of girl Kadences and a LOT of boy Cadens. If I see each name on paper, I'm quickly picturing a girl for the former and a boy for the later. KWIM?

It's like how Madison sounds like a boy name to me (since it is/was one and ends in son) but regardless of that I know good and well that if I meet 100 Madisons they will always be girls.

Anyway- OP- I personally like Cade the most but Caden is really close to Kadence so....

    GL!

  • Kaden Thomas was our top boy name, probably call him Kade. Both DH and I have the same initials, K_B, so we were going to give him the same as well, as long as it is a him.

But after a while of looking at names, looking at nursery pics and things like that the name seems to very common right now. There are tons of spellings with k or c.

We've since decided against the name b/c it does seem so common and that's important for us.

We still like the name and think it's fine either way, just b/c it's a k doesn't make it a girls name and I think Kade or Cade still sounds strongly like a boy. Do what makes you happy!

  • Nms. It sounds way too feminine.
  • I don't care for the name for a girl, even less for a boy, especially with the K.

Why not Austin or Alexander Kadence rather than vice versa?

  • My cousin and his wife are naming their baby girl Cadence...so that is my only real experience w/ the name. Kade is okay...maybe short for Kaden?? Also...check babynamewizard.com- they will do charts for it's use as a boy and a girl.
  • Kadence sounds like a girl name.  The "K" makes it even more feminine to me.
  • I only know of girls named Candence. It's not a nice name, boy or girl, IMO. I do like Cade for a boy though.
  • Not a fan of it for a boy or girl, but I'd say it's a girl's name.

  • Cadence is ranked 212 for girls so it's likely he will run into another Cadence who is female.  That to me is way to strong of a femal association for a boy. I would just go with Kaden or Kade.
  • I've never heard of a boy named Kadence.  Why not just name him Kade?

  • Can't stand Kadence for a boy- it's so girly.  But, Cade is really cute.  Cade Austin, Cade Michael, Cade Ledger, Cade Samuel.... IDK.
  • I would just name him Kade.  Cade looks too much like Cad--which I don't think you want your son to be!  (I also hate the "name" Cadence/Kadence anyway though; agree with pp that it looks like a girl's parents couldn't spell Candace.)
  • I'm not a fan of this name because it is a misspelling of the musical term cadence-but it is typically used as a girl's name.

    I would suggest Cade Alexander.

Personally, I don't give two hoots what a website says.  Ashley used to be a boy's name, now if you told people you were naming a boy Ashely, they would flip out.  I actually don't mind the name Kadence for a boy!

  • well its up to u and ur husbend really . but i have a daughter named cadence so if u like it for ur little bou go for it and alexander sounds better... good luck and as for me am having twin boys and i cant find names that we all like lols
  • Kadence sounds very feminine to me- I like Cade
  • I am very late to this but I also have a daughter named Cadence so I thought I would chime in. We like the name for it's musical connotations and overall sound. When I looked up the name way back when it said it could be used for a boy or a girl.

It really seems to be growing in popularity for girls in fact my sister's SIL just named her baby girl Kadence. If you love it you should use it, but I think Kade makes a very nice name on its own.
