Baby Names

How would you spell.....

So we have the names narrowed down to two names. And honestly, spelling may be the deciding factor. I have been struggling with the spelling of this name lately, and if I feel this unsettled about it (I don't want her to constantly be correcting people, but I also have a name with an alternative spelling and don't find it really that annoying)

I want people to be able to say her name correctly when they see it spelled, if they choose to misspell it when trying to write it, then I don't really see it as being a problem.

?

So on the to the point, how would you spell Kiersten? (Keer-sten)

Kyrsten

Kirsten

Kiersten?

Kierstyn?

?

thanks mamas!!!!!?

  • I'd go with Kiersten - I think it makes the most sense and is most likely to be pronounced the way you want it to.  BTW, I totally love this name!!

This. I would not pronounce Kirstin with the "e" sound in the beginning..I would say it like Kir-stin. With Kiersten, I see a long "e" sound.

  • That is my cousin's name and its spelled kirsten but i like kiersten also.

  • I think the spelling Kirsten would be pronounced kir-stin ... does that make sense? For the way you are wanting it pronounced, I would definitely go with Kiersten!

Oh, and my name is Kristin, and even I am sometimes called Kiersten, so I guess it is easy for some people to get the letters mixed around with these names :o)

  • This was an exceptionally popular name for girls amongst my peers.  Kirsten can be pronounced as Kur-sten or Keer-sten.  The rest of the spellings I've never seen or heard of before, and frankly, look a bit made up IMHO.  I think the 'y' in the middle complicates things.

I honestly only included the ones with a Y because babynames.com had them listed as alternative spellings. So I figured I'd try them all. However we are really between Kirsten and Kiersten.

    ?

I like the way Kirsten looks better than Kiersten, but I think the second will have less confusion.?

  • Stick with Kirsten. People who have heard of the name will generally know it is pronounced Keer- sten. I have met several Kirstens, all with your pronouciation.

  • I don't think Kirsten or Kyrsten would ever be pronounced "Keer-sten". ?They both would/should be pronounced "Kir-sten".

Kiersten is the only one that looks right to me. ?The "styn" ending looks like you're trying too hard to be unique.?

I agree with all of the Y spellings, I don't care for any of them. Just trying stuff out.

    Thanks though!!!!!?

    This.

  • Wow, it is so frustrating to read these responses!  The name is Kirsten.  It is pronounced Keer-sten.  It's Scandinavian.  Don't spell your child's name wrong just because people are stupid.  My name is Kristin and people have called me everything from Christine to Kirsten.  It doesn't mean my name should be spelled a different way.

I think if someone - a teacher, etc - pronounces it wrong, you correct them once and the problem is solved.  No big deal.

  • Kiersten - the way it's supposed to be.

kyrsten & kirsten look like kur-stin to me, like kirsten dunst.

    and the yn is nms.

  • The Kie.... spelling looks more like Keer-sten to me.  I have a good friend with that name and pronounciacion and she spells hers Kierstin, so I would go with one of the last two spellings; Kiersen or Kierstyn the other two I would pronounce Ker-sten unless corrected.  Blessings and good luck!
  • My name is Kristyn which is a little different but i loved having my name spelled with a y & not an i or an e. i dont know if that helps you at all but i think its really what you prefer.

  • My cousin is Kirsten (Kur-sten). Spell Keer-sten, Kiersten. I know a Kiersten and people pronounce it correctly.
  • Kiersten and Kirsten are said differently when I say them. I personally like Kiersten better.

Yes, this.  Especially the "y" spelling - It just looks like you're trying to hard to be different.  Think of it this way - Do you want your kid to EVER be able to find a souvenir mug or keychain with their name on it, the way they spell it?  If so, then stick to more mainstream spellings.

     Just my two cents.

  • I would go with Kiersten if you want to make sure you get the long e pronunciation. I think too many people will call her Kurstin if you go with the Kirsten spelling

This. I am so confused how other people are saying that. I'm assuming they are just unfamiliar with the name in general, because both pronouciations are correct, and there is  no reason to change the spelling just for that.
