more formal name for Lila?

Is there anything that you can think of that would be a longer name with Lila as the nn?  I was thinking Lilian could sort of work... Anything else?

That's true, I forgot to mention that.  Thing is, we don't really like Delilah, so we're looking for alternatives.  Thanks though!

  • It doesn't need a more formal name- Lila is fine on it's own. I taught a Lila last year- never thought anything was missing!
  • I like Lila by itself, too.  It's on my short list for baby names.  I like Lily as a cute nickname if we want something more diminutive.  If you want something longer, though, I think that Lillian is just fine.  Lily is a nicknmae for Lillian.  How's Lila any different?  I really like that idea! Yes  People will call your baby whatever you do, for the most part.

  • I have thought of the nickname Laila for Lorelai...that may work for you!
  • Lillian? It's a stretch and nms, but it's all I could think of to help you out.

  • i don't see why you'd need a more formal name. it's not like you're naming her Kimmy. Lila is a great name.

  • I like Lila by itself. It's great!

Confession: My chihuahua's name is Delilah, and we would love to name our future DD Delilah if I knew we wouldn't get flack for "naming our kid after our dog." Oh well. :-)?

hmm, I like that and Lorelai is on our longer list of names - thanks!

For people that like just Lila - I agree, it's great on it's own.  For some reason I just like the idea of nn's and so I prefer a longer/formal name and nn.  I dunno...

  • My daughter is Lyla, but most of the time we just call her "La"... so if you mostly just want to give her a name that has a nickname, that's one option!
  • Lila is a fine name by itself --  it's not a nickname.

Lillian nn Lila doesn't make any sense to me.

  • My friends have a Lila and her full name is Lilianna.....which to me would have the nn Lily or Anna but they wanted a formal name with the nn Lila so they chose Liliana or Lilianna--not sure which one.
