Pregnant after a Loss

Success stories with Prometrium: Oral, Vaginal, or Shot?

I have a question for those of you that have had low progesterone and have had success with prometrium to carry or keep a pregnancy.  I have had 2 miscarriages and we are trying again this month.  I did take the prometrium on the 2nd pregnancy but only carried to 6w.  My doctor proscribes prometrium 200 mg to be placed vaginally 2 times a day.  People have told me that they were only able to carry a pregnancy with the shot once a week.  My doctor says that the shot is "older medicine"  and the vaginal suppositories is new evidence.  Any advice?  And what type did you take?

 Thanks!

  • I took mine vaginally. 100mg/day was all it took, but my levels were low-normal to begin with so I didn't need too much I guess. Worked well for me!

  • I did it vaginally- I'd just trust your Dr that he knows what's going on. I haven't heard of anyone getting shots of progesterone on here, but have heard many women taking the suppositories. Sounds to me like he's right on track with what other dr's are doing.
  • I took 200mg of Prometrium vaginally twice a day until 13w3d because I had low progesterone.  I think it helped for me.  Good luck!
  • I had low progesterone and took 200mg orally once per day until 12w.  So far so good.

  • Hello, with dd I did the PIO shots every day through the first trimester. With my two losses, no progesterone. Now, with this pregnancy I was on prometrium 200mg 3x's a day vaginally through 12 weeks. It seemed to do the trick for me!
  • I took prometrium orally till 13 weeks and am currently 22 weeks 2 days with a healthy girl.
  • My RE believes in the vaginal over the oral. He says that the oral doesn't get to the site of action as well. Not sure about the shot though.
