Pregnant after a Loss

Prenatal yoga questions:

Before my BFP, I worked out a LOT. I've kept up with it but just with walking and biking, keeping my heart rate below 140...Here are my prenatal yoga questions:

Is it safe to start in the first trimester if I've never done yoga before?

Should I call my dr. to check?

Any "dangers" associated with prenatal yoga?

Did you/do you like it?

Re: Prenatal yoga questions:

  • Cara, I am not an expert by any means but I dont think there is any concern for you about starting PY.  You were and are still super active so its not like you are adding something crazy to your workout...

It would be different if you only did yoga pre pg then when in 2st try started running, biking and working out like a mad woman!  Enjoy, its great!

If you exercised before, there is absolutely no harm in doing prenatal yoga now if you're up to it. I would definitely seek out prenatal yoga because that will avoid stressing your pg body and will probably target areas you need to strengthen now (like the pelvic floor for eg).
  • I think it's always a good idea to check with your doctor. That said, I got the okay from my doctor last week to start at 27w! And I am 38 and pretty out of shape. She just said no hot yoga and no upside down poses (like there was any danger of that!). I took my first class on Sunday and loved it. It was a class for PG women and we were all 25w+.
