XP: nannies and outings

If you have a nanny, do you let her drive your kids on outings?  Our girls are almost 6 months old, and up until now either I or my DH has been home with the (part-time) nanny so we would drive when we wanted to get the girls out of the house.  We're about to both go back full-time, and I'd hate to have the girls stuck in the house all the time but we're a little anxious about safety.  What are your policies?

Re: XP: nannies and outings

  • I trust my nanny (and really, that's what this question comes down to), so yes, she is allowed and does take Alyssa on outings.  My only restriction was that she had to use a carseat.

  • When I worked as a nanny for an infant I was allowed to go to the park, gymboree, etc.  They provided the car and carseat, however, if my provider had a safe vehicle I would be okay with them traveling to certain places.

For example she didn't want me to go walk around the mall, the outings we had were for us to get out of the house but still do something fun for the baby.

  • I don't allow my nanny to take my daughter anywhere in her car.  She can walk her wherever they need to go so that's what I prefer.

  • My nanny takes DD to the library for storytime and the park.  I'm going to get a pass for the Play Gym in my neighborhood as well.  She only goes within a 5 mile radius and I'm fine with that.
  • I'm a nanny.  I take their son out daily (usually twice a day).  I have a car seat they gave me to use.
