I just got off the phone with DS's pedi. DS has been sleeping ALOT for the past 2 weeks. Basically since a few days after his 9 month appt. He usually goes to bed about 7:30 and he used to wake up about 8ish.
But lately he has been sleeping until 9:30-10:30 all through the night and then nursing and going right back to sleep until about 11:30 or after noon. Then he will be awake for maybe an hour and be cranky and go back down for another nap for 2-3 hours.
He used to take 2 naps a day that were maybe, Maybe, 1 hour each. All he seems to do now is sleep. I thought that perhaps it was the iron he had been Rx'd at his appt, but his pedi said it doesn't cause that. I just want my happy playful baby back. I have an appt with his pedi on Wednesday morning, but I think his pedi is just going to say oh well, nothing wrong he is just sleepy, because that is pretty much what the nurse said over the phone.
I just don't know why he is sleeping soo much. At first I thought it was a growth spurt, but its been too long. And I don't really know the point of this post. A vent I guess maybe, just releasing some frustrations perhaps. Ugh. I just don't know what is wrong, if anything or if I am just being ridiculous.
Re: Sleeping too much...kinda long
I don't think you are being ridiculous. That would concern me too.
Hopefully there is a simple explanation
Keep us posted.
This happened to me with DD1 but it stopped after ALMOST a month (eek). I assumed it was a growth spurt and she had grown between appts.
Have you changed your diet at all (since you're nursing)?
Have you tried an earlier bedtime (maybe like 6:45-7:00ish?)? Maybe he's not getting enough sleep during the night. Is he sleeping soundly? Or maybe is he waking up a few times but quiet (DS does this and just lays there)?
I wouldn't worry but keep us posted!
Thanks ladies.
Zoo-I haven't changed my diet
He sleeps through the night, all the way, At least from the time he goes to bed until 3-4 when I go to bed (I know horrible).
Thanks ladies for the advice, I am just going to keep an eye on him and see if it gets better or not.
I think that some kids just need more sleep than others. Ours sleeps 7-7 (sometimes she'll even sleep till 8:30), and some days she'll be up for an hour and then need a nap for a couple of hours and then (like today) ANOTHER nap in the afternoon for a couple of hours, and then other days she'll be up at 7 and good to go till 1 and then crash for 3 hours.
Since it's not his normal pattern though, I'd probably be concerned a bit too.
