My ribs are killing me!!

Since the day i first felt movement i have always felt the strongest kicks on the right side hight up.  Now that i am getting bigger and so are the babies my ribs on my right side ache horribly unless i am laying down.  I find it hard to beillive that the babies are all the way up in my rib cage already?? am i wrong?  its the worst when i am at work b/c i have a desk job and the constant sitting i think scrunches my ribs up only adding to the situation.

Has any body else had pain in thier ribs.. and besides laying down is there any pain managmetn options like ice or heat?? please help i dont think i will make it at work until my due date simply b/c the pain gets so bad by 1 pm! how lame is that!!!!

Re: My ribs are killing me!!

  • I had rib pain too.  My OB said it was actually my ribs stretching.  It totally sucked~!

  • I get lots of rib pain especially when sitting for a long time.  At my last U/S there is a head sitting right at my ribs.  Luckily for me i'm not working anymore so I can lay down.  Good luck.  It doesn't seem like it gets any better.
  • I already have horrible rib pain.  Sometimes its so painful, it catches my breath.  I was told that its partially from the babies (and everything else) moving up but its also your rib cage expanding. Whatever it is, it hurts.

I have found some relief in icing the area and using limited amounts of Tylenol.  There are also alot of yoga moves that can help- I have a few that I use but they are hard to explain. Google Prenatal yoga moves, there are even free video clips online.

  • I didn't have rib pain issues.  But I'm a twin, and apparently when my mother was pregnant with my twin sister and I, I was in a position where I constantly kicked the same part of her lowest rib.  It actually caused her muscle to dislocate from her rib, and even now over 30 years later, the muscle is still dislocated.  Throughout my childhood I would periodically hear about this injury usually in the form of "I even had my rib muscle dislocated for you, and you won't do (whatever the current request was)".  When I was pregnant with my twin daughters, the first time my mother saw me after the babies were moving around, she came over, leaned over my stomach and said "kick her in the ribs, girls.  Get my revenge".  Nice, don't you think?

  • I have terrible rib and mid-back pain... it is so painful I can't sit longer than 5 minutes!!  ugh...

doc said to put ice pack on it or heat.... but i never do... i just lay down

  • i have bad rib pain on my left side. dr said what all the other ladies drs said. it's normal. sometimes lifting my left arm up helps stretch up my rib cage, but really nothing helps for long. its one of the reasons i asked my dr to write me out of work this week, the pain was to much to deal with at work all day.
  • My ribs spread out so much that I went from a 36 bra size to a 42 with a bra extender.  When I came home from the hospital I swear you could fit your fist under my boobs and in between my ribs.  They are just starting to go back to where they were, but the spreading was pretty painful.
