  • Ellie, but as a nn for something like Elizabeth. As stand-alone names, they're too cutesy and informal for me.

That's exactly why I like it...I hate when people name their kid something but then only use their nickname!  Why not just name them the nickname you plan on calling them?!  I'm a Katie and my parents named me just Katie cuz they felt the same way...Why name her Kaitlyn or Katherine when we're only gonna call her Katie?  And I thank them for that!

I do agree with that.. but I still feel like they're both very childish names, like they don't transfer well into adulthood. I love Ellie though, I just couldn't see naming my daughter that only. As an adult, I feel like she might want a more grown-up name, especially in the professional world.

But, everyone has their own opinion on names, right.. which is why there are so many to pick from ;) My SIL wants to name her daughter Elle. And one of my good friends has a daughter named Ella and I know that's a pretty popular name right now.

  • I think Ella is too popular right now. But if that doesn't bother you - then I think it would be better as a life-long name.
  • Ellie, I think there are too many Ella's now.
  • Our 13 yo is Ellie.  We named her after a post-grad teacher of DH's who we both loved.  We thought we were being quite original.  Ellie is very athletic and often there's an Ellie on the opposing team.  Still, there's only 2 or 3 Ellies in her whole school of about 800 kids.

My BF has a neighbor with an Ellie, it is short for Ellison, which I love.

  • You have great taste! These are the two names that I'm considering for baby #2 if it's a girl and I still don't know which name I like best. LOL :)

  • Both are very cute, but I've seen both of these names becoming very popular lately.  Ellie can be a nickname for Eleanor too.  And I've also heard Elle and Ellen lately too.
  • I like Ellie better, but I like it as a nickname for Elizabeth, Eleanor, etc.
