Something to wear during recovery?

How many of you will be bringing a gown or some sort of jammies to the hospital to change into for the day or so of recovery?  I just don't know if I can stand staying in the hospital frock for that long.  I don't want to wear something of mine during L&D but I am wondering if it would be beneficial for my own mental state during recovery.  Maybe something inexpensive?  What are you all planning to do?

  • My flannel pjs and my burgandy terry robe. Oh and slipper socks with the grippers on the bottoms. I'm always cold so the hospital issue stuff isn't going to cut it.

  • I just wore the hospital gown until I was ready to go - and maybe my bathrobe, I can't remember.  I bled pretty heavily and didn't want to put on regular clothes until I had to.  I wore a maternity track suit/sweats to and from the hospital.

  • Hmmm I never thought about this.  But during recovery I think I would much prefer my comfy flannel pj pants and t-shirt to a hospital gown.

Get some cute & comfy pjs just for the recovery.  Pack them away and don't wear them until then.  Nothing like new and comfy jammies :-).

  • I have a ways to go before I purchase anything, but have already considered I will probably bring my own gown or some sort of comfy jammies!  My sister said she was glad she brought her own clothes, I think hospital gowns are scratchy and hot so I would not be comfortable to stay in that while in recovery.
  • I had Natalie at 1:35am.  I shower and changed by 8am.  I wore sweatpants and a nursing tank.
  • I took pjs last time.  DD was born at 3 pm and I didn't put my stuff on until after I got up and showered the next morning.  They didn't get messed up or leaked on or anything though.  Be sure to take a nursing bra too if you are gonna bf!

  • My midwife encourages people to bring their own gowns, robes, slippers for the 6 - 8 hour recovery period after giving birth.  So I'm going to bring a nice, comfortable cotton gown and terry robe for that period and then my maternity sweats for the drive home.

I am.  I don't like being in the hospital gowns after delivery.  Usually, once they let me, I take a shower and put my own pajamas on.  It was still pretty warm when DD and DS were born, so Ihad light pajamas, but I think I'm going to get some warm flannel ones with a button down shirt to make nursing easier.  I'm going cheap in the event that I bleed heavier than I did with the first two, but I want something of my own.

  • Oh yes, I had my own socks and slippers, too.  If you're planning on BFing, make sure any gown/clothing you bring is nursing-friendly.  I will also say that maybe I would've felt like changing into my own clothes if I felt better - my back/pelvis was pretty screwed up and I could barely walk so I was in bed most of the time.

I'm going to buy some sort of night gown.  You will need to be in a gown of some sort so they can check you after.

and bring my own robe/slippers too.

I hear people say this, but I've never been checked after my deliveries.  My doctor comes in and feels my stomach, but that's it.

  • With DS I wore the hospital gown the whole time. This time I think I will bring a few yoga pants and tshirts. It's amazing how much better you feel after just a shower when you first give birth. I imagine not walking around in that frumpy hospital gown work work wonders too.

Same here. I never had any kind of vaginal check, just pushing (hard!) on the uterus to make sure there was no clotting left over tissue or whatever it is they check for.

  • I highly recommend bringing your own stuff--you'll feel more human.  For me, with a c-section, a gown was/will be most comfortable.  I'll buy something cheap that I don't mind getting messed up.

  • With DD I brought some night gowns and a robe, and warm socks.  Come to think of it I don't think I wore a bra the entire time I was in the hospital. I wound up staying two nights I guess becasue DD was born at 11:45 am.  My doc came in and checked me out down there a couple of times and the hospital provided a special lamp to help the healing process so gowns worked the best for me.  I didn't get anything on any of my things.

  • I wore gauchos and a tank top with DS and DD since I had them in May, and I'll be bring yoga pants for this little one. I'd suggest bringing socks that you don't mind throwing away - the first few times you get up, you will gush quite a bit of blood, so just be prepared to ruin a few pairs of socks.
  • Have you guys seen these?

I was wondering how much of a waste of money it would be to get my own comfy hosptial gown. Or if you can get away with a night gown and a robe? All i do know is that i am taking my favourtie knee length fluffy blue stripped socks with grippy bottoms!

I'm planning on making  or buying myself a delivery gown or skirt (haven't decided yet), and will absolutely be changing into something else of my own after delivery.

Good tip about lots of socks and the gushing... I'll definitely remember that!

  • Plan on taking comfy pj and sweat pants and some of DH's shirts.  They fit much better than anything else the last time around.
  • I plan to find something comfy to take and wear, not sure what yet December is still a ways away. I'm more concerned with people visiting me and being in that hospital gown, I'd rather be comfy and look half way decent.
  • Im going to take a robe and some socks but will wear their gowns.  I actually dont mind them, i find them comfy.
