3rd Trimester

What did you eat before your glucose test?

I am still on 2nd tri but am coming over here the end of this week, but thought you girls could answer this better.

What did you eat before your glucose test? My clinic is saying to eat something small, but stay away from carbs and sugars. I am not a huge breakfast person, and don't like eggs so it limit my options.

What did you eat?

Re: What did you eat before your glucose test?

  • I went first thing in the morning, so I didn't eat anything before the test, but after I had a big breakfast.

  • just make sure you eat some good protein and avoid carbs. If you don't like eggs, maby have some lunch meat?

  • I had an 8am appointment and was told not to eat anything after midnight.
  • most docs will tell you to eat whatever before hand.  if you fail and have to do the 3hr you have to fast for that.  i personally didn't eat any breakfast before my 1hr and still failed.

  • I ate nothing b/c I didnt feel like eggs and they said stay away from carbs.  I still failed the 1hr but passed the 3hr.

  • My appt wasn't til 4 that day so I ate normal all day long. I did stay away from sweet-although I don't think it matters much bc if you had GD then you have it and nothing you eat that day will change it.

But just make sure you have something in your system so you don't get the sugar rush from the drink or pass out when they take your blood!

  • I don't remember.  Why not whole-wheat bread and peanut butter?

  • I had a Kashi waffle with peanut butter, mangoes and a small amount of syrup with a glass of milk.  I passed my 1 hour.
  • I didn't eat anything beforehand because it was first thing in the morning...but I ate pretty well after.  I passed my one hour.
  • I was given no instructions and had mine at 3, so I had a cereal for breakfast, pb&j for lunch with fritos, milk and half a choc chip cookie and still passed.

  • I wasn't allowed to eat before my test
Mom to 2 healthy boys, and a baby girl in Heaven. Heard her heartbeat on 7/18, heartbeat was gone on 7/20. Miss you forever.
  • I had a piece of wheat toast and some egg beaters.  Pretty sure this isnt going to help because you dont like eggs...  :(  Sorry
  • I didn't eat anything... My test was at 7am, so I woke up, got ready for work, took the test, then went to work and had breakfast. I have a hard time eating that early. Regardless, I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour.

  • I was told to fast for my 1hr.

  • I called and they said to eat something small otherwise I might get sick.

Peanut butter and toast is a good idea.

  • Given I had my test at 3:45 pm...I ate boiled eggs for breakfast with one piece of wheat toast. Then for lunch I had a can of tuna with mayo and one piece of wheat toast. Water all day.

EDIT: and I passed the test with no issues.

  • Fasted after midnight. I couldn't really eat much after felt kind of crappy!

  • My doctor told me to eat a low fat starchy snack.  They suggested a low fat yogurt or toast with jelly.  I have mine on Wednesday and plan on eating a yogurt.
  • I had 2 slices of multigrain toast with butter before I went.  I passed.

  • I have heard it doesn't really matter what you eat because, like pp have said, if you have GD, you have it. But, to answer your question, I avoided anything that had lots of sugar in it (cereals, OJ, etc) and kept it pretty bland and passed.

GL! Can't wait to see ya on 3rd tri this week!!!?

  • My doctor didn't give me any restrictions. I had a bagel with garden vegetable cream cheese. It was delicious and I passed the 1 hour.
  • I had oatmeal with brown sugar for breakfast and a grilled cheese for lunch before I went in for my test.  I was told by my doctor that nothing I ate would make a difference.  I guess each doctor has different requirements/recommendations.
  •   I was told that I didn't have to fast.  I ate toast with PB and a bowl of cereal and had a glass of cranberry juice.  I passed with no issues.
  • I ate a piece of dry toast. (and passed the test) GL!
  • I ate nothing and failed! Yogart with less sugar would be good.

  • Mine is tomorrow morning. I'm planning on eggs (no toast) with salsa. I'll also eat a yogurt on my way (cause I have to snack ... i have to).

?I'd suggest peanut butter toast and plain yogurt if you are not an egg person.

  • I had Frosted Flakes and orange juice..

That's carbs AND sugar. Tongue Tied I still passed.

  • Two pieces of whole wheat toast with cream cheese, a bowl of raisin bran, and a peach.  My doc said to eat as normal because you shouldn't be trying to eat for the test - as the pp said, he said if you have GD, you have it no matter what you eat that day.  I passed.
  • I had a cheese and ham sandwich with coffee with milk (no sugar) and I passed. But around 34 weeks I got GD.
  • I was given the advice not to eat any complex carbs the night before or the morning of.  I had just chicken breasts, veggies and water the night before.  Since I had a morning appointment, I didn't have breakfast before and had a big breakfast right after the test.  I passed!
  • It doesn't matter what you eat.  You can't trick the test.  That is what my OB explained to me.  It's just the way your body reacts to pregnancy despite how many carbs and sugars you consume.  If you are going to have it, you are going to have it.  But of course, after I consumed the lovely drink, I could only have water for the hour before they drew my blood.
  • Sorry just getting around to reading all the responses. I know you can't trick the test, but I don't want to fail because I had something too sugary for breakfast.

At my last appointment my OB told me that a lady had a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast and failed... yes I don't plan on doing that but I don't want to eat something so I have to take the 3 hour.

  • whole wheat toast and hummus. I can't tolerate eggs, I throw them up.

    I passed.

  • I was given no restrictions.  I had two multigrain waffles with fresh blueberries and lite syrup.  I had totally forgotten it was that day, or I may have skipped the fruit and syrup, but I passed anyway.

I ate toast with pb on it with my first pregnancy and failed by 1pt. Passed the 3 hr though...
