Your dresser question....

The dresser was a cream color - definitely painted.  It was glossy paint, but not like shellac on top.  Is your coating like a poly coating?

You could always strip it.  Let me get home tonight and send you a link to what another Nestie did to her dresser (the reason why I bought and did this dresser).  She stripped it and did a step-by-step on her blog.  That might help you.

I am no where near an expert on this subject - you may want to post on the Decorating/Renovating board on the Nest - there are some really talented ladies there that would probably give you better advice.

  • I don't really know what the coating is.  It's clear and it seems think.  I think it's more than a poly coating.  I don't know if it's stripable.  I guess worst-case would be that I need to find some way to bind the paint to whatever the coating might be.

That link would be AMAZING!  It doesn't seem like this would be way too difficult so I might attempt it.

    Thanks :)

If the shiny stuff is just on top, then you may want to just sand it off.  You can email this lady, she is really great.

Here is another one that I like, and she has redone the same dresser, but wihtout stripping.  https://www.inthefunlane.com/

  • Thanks!!  I'll definitely have to look at the dresser a little more closely and see what I can do with it.  It's cream now but the top is white.  Hopefully I'd be able to get away with just stripping the top portion.  I really don't want to have to strip the whole thing.

I also have a 6-drawer lingerie chest that I want to re-do.  It's tall and thin and would be perfect in my entry way.
