How much in a bottle?

I am just starting the pumping process. ?If I pump a few times a day, how much milk should I put into one bottle? ?Yesterday, DD had her first bottle and it had 3 oz in it. ?She drank it pretty quickly and this was after having nursed about an hour earlier. ?I want to make sure I have enough in a bottle if we go somewhere, but I also don't want to have too much and have it go to waste.

Re: How much in a bottle?

  • When my DD was your babe's age, I read that 2.5-3 oz would be enough.  Well, it wasn't for her.  Every baby is different, that is for sure.  She was easily chugging 4.5oz back then.

  • I'm currently trying to figure this out because I will be going back to school in 2 weeks and I need to leave bottles for DH to feed O. It seems to me that he takes about 1-2 oz per hour. So if he goes 2 hours, he'll take about 2 oz- if he goes longer, he'll take more. I don't have it down to a science yet but we are getting there, lol.
  • I think you'll have to test DC out and err on the side of too much to start. I want to say both my DCs were taking less than 4 oz per feeding at age (probably 3ish), but at some feedings they surprise you. Also, the longer they go between feedings, the more they take. Weight also matters - I had two smaller kids.
